Smt DPattammal had her early tutelage in carnatic music under Smt.Sethu Bai a disciple of Tiger Sri Varadhachari, Veena Vidwan, Sri Varadhaiyah, Pozhakudi, Sri P.V.Ganesa Iyer, Sri Kalakkad Ramanarayana Iyer and Smt. D.K.Pattammal. As a young musician in the early fifties Smt D Pattammal won many prizes in competitions held by Music Academy, Indian Fine Arts, and other organizations competing with stalwarts like Sri Seerkazhi Govindarajan, Smt Palani Vijayalakshmi, Smt Sulochana Pattabhiraman.
