Buses are one of the inexpensive way. To travel in Malaysia. Most of the buses in Penang are air-conditioned, but there are still non-air-conditioned buses in smaller towns around the country. Buses plying routes within towns and cities typically charge fares according to the distance covered while interstate buses have fixed rates. Even with extra buses hired for this exodus, tickets are snapped up like 'hot cakes' and seats are fully booked. Hence advance booking is required during this period.

Rice cooked in chicken stock and topped with steamed or roasted chicken. Originated from KL, this rice noodle is fried with fried pork fat, prawns, sliced pork, cabbage and turns black and expands as it soaks up all the sauces and grease. It is eaten with freshly blended chilli sauce mixed with dried shrimp and belacan. Stir-fried flat rice noodles with prawn, cockles, egg and bean sprouts. A local favourite, this pancake is made out of wheat flour dough which is stretched, layered and fried on a griddle.
