By Christy Rettger: Foundation Training for Success in Any Discipline. Before Horse Shopping, Do This. Before Horse Shopping, Do This. What size would your ideal horse be? How much training would he have? Would he already have a show record? How far would you be willing to travel to find him? Think about things you might do with him besides your main discipline, think about what he’d have to be like to fit in at the place you want to board him or to fit your trainer’s program. Title this list “Must...

By Christy Rettger: Foundation Training for Success in Any Discipline. How to Overcome Blaming Yourself or Your Horse to Improve Your Riding Today. Riding is, by definition, an activity that involves a partnership between horse and rider. Is it then the horse or the rider that deserves the credit for the good rides, and the blame for the bad ones? How Your Half Pad Can Make or Break Your Ride. This is good news and bad news. On the one hand, buying a half pad is a much smaller investment than buying ...

The training journal of a re-rider learning dressage with a couple OTTBs. Details about Maddie (JC name La Cheryl). Independent Study →. A simple but momentous fix. November 21, 2014. I have been working hard to get control over (and response from) those hind legs. However, things have changed dramatically in the last two weeks and for the better due to one important change – hind shoes. But the difference that shoes in back have made for Derby and others is (in my mind at least) pretty amazing. Last nig...

The training journal of a re-rider learning dressage with a couple OTTBs. Details about Maddie (JC name La Cheryl). October 8, 2012. This picture taken by Caitlin pretty much sums up my day. We were at the show, but missing from action. The problem began with a tippy mounting block, which tipped as I stepped up into the iron. I got a bit hung up and am so glad my friend Brittany was holding Derby, limiting how far he could go with me clinging like a monkey to his side. I was bitterly, bitterly disappoint...

Exploring Dressage Biomechanics: Horse Training Is a Lot Like Parenting
http://exploringdressagebiomechanics.blogspot.com/2015/12/horse-training-is-lot-like-parenting.html
Friday, December 18, 2015. Horse Training Is a Lot Like Parenting. December 18, 2015 at 8:51 AM. For me I am *still learning* the role of patience, being able to slow down and let small lessons absorb instead of the listen to me now! Mentality I used to have. If raising kids doesnt kill you, you definitely come out the other side with a whole new appreciation of the word patience. Also a big one is removing emotion from the equation, which is slowly getting easier for me! December 18, 2015 at 10:14 AM.

The dressage journey with ex-racehorses. Rock Bottom, With Hope →. Cold Day Transformation Inspiration. January 7, 2015. I seems to me that so many people think dressage is something that horses are born for, which in many cases is absolutely true, but so few anymore realize that where dressage came from was a method of developing a horse into what some of them are born with today. If you have the budget and desire, by all means buy one of these born for dressage horses! And let me know what you think!
