drifting in turkey

Day 147 : Second Wind. Day 147 - Istanbul. Beloved Turkey, where have you been my whole life? And the best part of all - the toilet was the kind that you can actually sit down on. I must have spent an hour in the there. A few notes on Istanbul:. We traveled through Pakistan, Afghanistan, Iran and Iraq to get to here. And by through I mean in reclining seats at 36,000 feet. And on the exit row I might add. They say Turkey is the Gateway to the East, but for us it is a much welcomed Gateway to the West.

drifting in turkey: Day 179 :: Goodbye, Asia

http://www.driftinginturkey.blogspot.com/2007/08/day-179-goodbye-asia.html

Day 179 : Goodbye, Asia. Day 179 - In Transit. Just a quick word: The following post should not be read as THE final post for our entire trip - this is just the end of the asia leg. There is more still to come.]. What can I possibly say here that would do justice to the wonderfully epic ride that we've taken through Asia over the past six months? The bottom line is that we did it. We set out to drift, open to Asia's leading, and that is exactly what we did. And I'm proud of us. 1,679 Total Miles. Subscri...

drifting in turkey: Day 160 :: Grapes and Q-Tips

http://www.driftinginturkey.blogspot.com/2007/07/day-160-grapes-and-q-tips.html

Day 160 : Grapes and Q-Tips. Day 160 - Antalya. A few mostly dismissive notes: 1. Since our arrival in Turkey we have scarfed down 46 Döner Kebabs ($2.00 each), 25lbs of cherries (1lb = $1.25) and 30lbs of grapes (1lb = $1.00). 2. After 160 days of ear cleaning, I used my last Q-tip today. Which is only noteworthy because I must have packed 400. 3. I loved this post! 1 I don't want to know what your BM's looked like after all those cherries and grapes. This comment has been removed by the author. Subscri...

drifting in turkey: Day 163 :: Our Busy Life

http://www.driftinginturkey.blogspot.com/2007/07/day-163-our-busy-life.html

Day 163 : Our Busy Life. Day 163 - Antalya. Our camera broke. It could be three weeks before some wonderfully mediocre photos surface again.]. We were sitting Indian style on a long pebbly beach with aqua Mediterranean water lapping up to our feet, and I was. To see how far down the pebbles went. So I was digging a hole the other day and felt busy. I'll let you how it goes when we get back to Los Angeles. Surely the to-do list had Getting Q-Tips all over it! With the salt water you need 2-3 a day! Day 16...

http://www.driftinginturkey.blogspot.com/2007/07/day-151-around-istanbul.html

Day 151 : Around Istanbul. Day 151 - Selcuk, Ephesus. Our five days in Istanbul were incredible. We visited most of the sites, took a day trip out to the Princes Islands, drank wine with other travelers on our hostel's rooftop terrace and ate meat for the first time since Thailand (we went vegetarian in Nepal and India). Fisherman on the Galata Bridge. Inside the Hagia Sofia. Our Hostel's Rooftop Terrace. A few more photo's of Istanbul, the Princes Islands and other sites can be seen here. TIME TO MOVE ON.

Day 97 : Leg 2 Begins Now. Day 97 - Kathmandu. Welcome to the top of the world. Well, closer anyway. Three weeks ago we had a fifteen minute conversation with two strangers about visiting Nepal eventually. Their adament advice? The monsoon is coming. Hurry.". Tomorrow we begin our drift around Nepal. We'll start in Royal Chitwan National Park and go from there. Three weeks from now. Another magical part about Kathmandu = no zip code.). Drifting in China: Day 6 :: Notes On Hong Kong

Day 6 : Notes On Hong Kong. Day 6 - HK/Lamma Island. Final notes on Hong Kong (after only four days, we have completely figured out the culture, ethos and people of Hong Kong):. Gameboys here are like iPods in America. They're loads of McDonalds and 7/11 stores here. Hasn't anyone told our friends here that slurpees died in the early 90's and that McDonalds is the new K-Mart? Cell phones here are like cell phones in America. More pictures can be found here. Drifting in China: March 2007

http://driftinginhongkong.blogspot.com/2007_03_01_archive.html

Day 3 : It Has Begun. Day 3: Hong Kong. So we're sitting in a little room on the fifth floor of the Ling Do building on Hong Kong Island. It looks a little like one of those trailer classrooms that elementary schools build when they run out of space (except for the Chinese banners, the shoes for sale and the girl singing kareoke at the top of her lungs). Well, the internet clock is winding down and Kari just asked me if I dare her to sing kareoke. I better get out of here fast. Day 4: Hong Kong. They're ...

Drifting In Thailand: Day 77 :: Secluded Beaches

http://driftinginthailand.blogspot.com/2007/04/day-77-secluded-beaches.html

Day 77 : Secluded Beaches. Day 77 : Koh Samui. For the record: We haven't worn socks since China.]. Only 28 hours by bus from Chiang Mai is a little place called Railay Beach. It sits along the west side of Thailand on the Adaman Sea. The only way to get to these beaches is by a long boat; no land entrance exists. The sand is white, the water is aqua and the cliffs are breathtaking. You can even walk between Islands when the tide is out. This is where we've been for the last week. Back To Home Page.

Drifting In Cambodia: Day 85 :: EPIC Angkor Wat

http://driftingincambodia.blogspot.com/2007/05/day-85-epic-angkor-wat.html

Day 85 : EPIC Angkor Wat. Day 85: Siem Reap. Yesterday, after we walked across the border from Thailand to Cambodia, we got on a bus to the ruins of Angkor Wat. The distance is around 110 miles. It took 7 hours. I guess it was sort of like driving from LA to San Diego. Anyway. We fishtailed in mud, nearly ran over a motorbike and plowed through water that was knee deep. All that to bring you this video. :). Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Back To Home Page. Currently in CENTRAL AMERICA.

Side street in Old Delhi:. Main Bazaar in Paharganj:. City Park Near New Delhi Train Staion:. A Few Families Lıved Here:. A few more can be seen here. http://driftinginindia.blogspot.com/2007/06/day-136-many-faces.html

Day 136 : Many Faces. Day 136 - Mcleod Ganj. I have to be honest with you. Sharing the sidewalk with cows never gets old. Not only are they unattended and left to themselves, they seem to have adopted all the walking habits of a human. They browse at certain stores and stop to eat some trash at various bins. They simply go where they please and I think we're all better off for it.]. And so once again, in our attempt to become aquainted with India, we are instead being greeted by Tibet. :Caught Contemplating:

Nothing to say, just something to do: a new experimentation of poetic terrorism. With nothing but a sheet of paper. Outside looking in : there is a crooked-seated me, there is a chair and lastly, a misplaced feeling of belonging seeping through the air. I am glued and I stick, though I never touch a single thing. There is a white sheet of paper, my thoughts in the ink and a silence leaving my breath. Imagine living with the mountains in the backyard. Towering, solid, stoic, lasting mounds of rock and dirt.
