A careful analysis of evidence on the ground and in the literature suggests that Hexham used to have a defensive wall, complete with watchtower. Supplement and the Hexham Historian. Have both published articles based on this research, but the restrictions of periodical publishing meant that they could only use some of the detailed evidence.
