Saturday, January 30, 2010. I Looked Out the Window and What Did I See. The best combination Cambridge could offer me:. What a surprise. I took a brief break from my work to walk through town and immortalize this very treasured moment. King's Backs from Clare Bridge. On the way to Parker's Piece. The View from My Window. Chronicles of Cambridge: May Week (In June)
http://ingridinengland.blogspot.com/2010/06/may-week-in-june.html
Friday, June 18, 2010. May Week (In June). I returned to Cambridge in the middle of "May Week." A long-standing tradition here in Cambridge, May week is the week following the end of exams and the posting of grades on what is historically known as "suicide sunday." They still lock the doors to all the towers on this day in Cambridge, to ensure nobody attempts the traditional throwing-off-of-tower-after-horrible-exam-scores suicide. Chronicles of Cambridge: Oxford Town
http://ingridinengland.blogspot.com/2010/06/oxford-town.html
Thursday, June 3, 2010. Their Bridge of Sighs is over a road instead of a river. The benefits of living in England - nothing is much more than a bus ride away. Granted, some bus rides are longer than others. The one to Oxford: 3 hours. So to Oxford I went on Tuesday with my housemate Julia who was looking for housing. While she puttered around from flat to flat looking for the right place, I had a chance to catch up with some of my dear Truman friends. Mr Rhodes Scholar/ All Souls College. I loved Oxford...

Chronicles of Cambridge: May 2010
http://ingridinengland.blogspot.com/2010_05_01_archive.html
Tuesday, May 25, 2010. The Moon is Down. Today I took a day off from dissertation-writing to meet my friend Terry for lunch, a mentor to me who actually sat on my Truman interview panel. Because she is a bit more of a local than I am, she offered some recommendations of things to do and see in London that I otherwise may have never known about. One of these places was Daunt Bookshop. Unbeknownst to many, John Steinbeck (yes, THE Steinbeck, Grapes of Wrath, East of Eden,. Why does this matter? And, of cou...

Chronicles of Cambridge: Cinque Terre
http://ingridinengland.blogspot.com/2010/06/cinque-terre.html
Tuesday, June 29, 2010. My last little jaunt in Europe, for this time, took me and Chloe to Cinque Terre, Italy. All of these anecdotes led to a trip full of fun times, great stories, pictures and a suntan to boot. Sharing a few photos and then heading out to watch one final world cup match here in England: Portugal vs. Spain. Should be a good one! Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). May Week (In June). Chronicles of Cambridge: Memorial Day with SACEUR
http://ingridinengland.blogspot.com/2010/06/memorial-day-with-saceur.html
Tuesday, June 1, 2010. Memorial Day with SACEUR. Leland, Zach, Captain Morales, Jon, Jim and Brady. Happy Memorial Day to all of you in the States who celebrated yesterday. Although a "Bank Holiday" here in England, they do not specify it as any particularly special day. Despite that, the Americans here, particularly those in the military, did a good job of commemorating this special day anyway. After the talk I was lucky enough to join the group for a formal dinner with SACEUR. It was a casual event...

Chronicles of Cambridge: October 2009
http://ingridinengland.blogspot.com/2009_10_01_archive.html
Sunday, October 25, 2009. An Ode to Pink Thunder(bird). My first day in Cambridge I immediately sensed that there was something missing in my life. Something that would make life easier, something dependable and consistent, and most importantly, something that would make me feel less inferior to the speeding cars on the wrong side of the road. That something, I soon discovered, was none other than Pink Thunder(bird), aka Pink. The Day Our Relationship Began to Blossom. Despite the abandoned, unloved and ...

Chronicles of Cambridge: Back to My Roots
http://ingridinengland.blogspot.com/2010/06/back-to-my-roots.html
Friday, June 18, 2010. Back to My Roots. I have been informed that every time I blog post its the equivalent of 10 kilos of words, so I'll try to debrief as concisely as possible. Over the course of the past couple of weeks I was lucky enough to travel to both my mother's homeland, Norway, as well as the place from where my father's family emigrated to America, Ireland. I feel lucky to be able to claim both these countries, as they are two of the most beautiful places on earth (no bias here). After a day...
