The fact that we are going for the unknown as far as plans are concerned, is making this into an interesting and a different experience. We heard from friends who stayed at the home of their daughter in the US that there were times they needed to shut their eyes. At other times they needed to go out to 'get fresh air'. The visit to the villages of the tribal people was quite interesting. The fact that they are expecting the arrival of the tourists and possibly even depend on them for livelihood, may reduce the authenticity of the experience yet the poverty of these people is striking. The highlights of our last 2 days included the flight back to Bangkok and a visit before that to handcraft shops doing wood carving, furniture, laquer painting with eggshells on decorative pieces, more umbrella painting as well as collecting our stuff from the guesthouse.
