It is legislated by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Nova Scotia that we must send back what is known as a confirmation of referral. As Dr Wasilewski is a general surgeon who provides major and minor surgery, endoscopy and on-call services, much of his time is spent in those activities at the hospital. Endoscopy is any procedure which uses a a very small state of the art camera passed into the gastrointestinal tract to visualize its inner lining. If biopsies are required a small biopsy tool can be passed down as well to retrieve tiny portions of tissue. For optimal results the gastrointestinal tract must be empty and very clean.
