The Christmas barrage has begun. Right after Halloween I began to hear Christmas songs in the stores. I sense a deeper anxiety around Christmas this year. Stores are worried people won't spend. As the New Testament proclaims life to the dying, as life and death collide in the cross of Christ, and as life swallows up death—only when we see this do we believe in the church under the cross. Otherwise our faith becomes an illusion. Believers do not see reality in a certain light.

He said yes, and off we went. I told this story to my dad and he insisted that I am too nice, and that Harry was probably telling those "sob stories" to everyone in hopes for a large tip, a thought that NEVER ONCE entered my mind. Either way I'm sure he needed that money more than I did.
