Five Ring Circus: 2005.08

Wednesday, August 10, 2005. Big president's dinner tonight in the Innovation Center. The good chefs, busy doing the prep, ask a few friendlies to the back of the kitchen to share in the excess. Free lunch, I can't turn it down, though I'm under strict orders not to spread the word. Can't have jealousy spread to the rest of the offices, nor can we have the mad rush of people who think it's a banquet. Links to this post. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Best Souvenirs to Bring Home? Saturday, July 31, 2004. Ain't nothin' gonna break-a my stride. All right, man! The hole in my thumb is finally healing. Got some kind of anti-biotics yesterday and 4 pills later the yellow goo has stopped flowing. Everything looks to be normal again except for the swelling and the gaping red hole. No pain or redness, though. I asked, and she about popped. So excitable, that girl. She's the happy one in the photos from the Euro-Cup celebration. It was the first time I saw a corpse in the wild. A few ...

Five Ring Circus: One year ago today...
http://charlie-5-ringcircus.blogspot.com/2009/05/one-year-ago-today.html
Saturday, May 09, 2009. One year ago today. After Athens I remember going through the "One year ago today" phase with the kind of deep nostalgia that only results from living life in concentrate for so long. Now on facebook and on the telephone I see and hear others doing the same thing about Beijing. Which makes me wonder what I was doing a year ago today. From the office window I'd seen only north Beijing. Out there was the Bird's Nest and the Dragon Building, which intrigued me deeply. It stil...There...

Tuesday, January 18, 2005. I miss Rafina much tonight. The brown-hued windy sea-side dust-bowl heat farm sunrise-sunset Rafina! Just sitting there never got old! I wonder what Daria's doing tonight. I wonder how Mama is. I wonder how Bobbis and Basillis are doing. Is the spanakopita warm in the corner shop display? Are the negritos idle or hot? It's 10 degrees here tonight. That's fahrenheit. On the ol' celcius scale that's like -10 or something. Today was a good day. Work flew by. Pou ise, Dionysis Pint?

Thursday, October 28, 2004. That was either the most boring World Series yet or I still haven't shaken my delayed jet lag. I'm gonna bet that I'm still on Athens time, considering that it was my Sox in the Series, and that should have been enough to hold my interest. Then again, I was away for a while and missed a healthy chunk of the baseball season, and my interest in it all just wasn't there. Anyway, I fell asleep in the 8th inning and missed the celebration. Some fan. Links to this post. I hate quitt...

Saturday, April 30, 2005. ADDIS ABABA (AFP) - Ethiopia's flooding death toll rose to 111 as devastating rains swept 50 villages in the southeastern region of the country, officials said. At least eight of the dead were devoured by crocodiles in the Wabe Shebell River after it burst its banks on Saturday. It wasn't one person eaten by crocodiles, but eight! Eight death stories, final monologues:. 1 Hon, I'm going out to get the paper. Be back in a sec- - aaaaaaaaah! Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Best Souven...

Wednesday, June 30, 2004. Rafina, on the road to Athens. Last night we had dinner at a seaside café. Plates upon plates, with sardines, bigger sardines, calamari, marinated and grilled octopus, some kind of fried cheese, ouzo, another drink (an apparent whiskey-vodka hybrid), tomato-cucumber salad with feta, and olive and garlic dips. I’m not sure that I’ve ever enjoyed eating as much as I did last night. Means more work for me. Shrug. The hotel is on a bay in Rafina, with a beach right outside the windo...
