Finally, the airport terrapin population might have grown tremendously in the last 10 years, perhaps due to a drop in egg predation by their main nest predator, raccoons. There are lots of things we’d like to see happen in the future of Jamaica Bay Terrapin Research lots of gaps in the knowledge needed to help our terrapins, and lots to be done to implement the management we already know is needed. But two things one a knowledge gap and the other an application gap are clearly extremely important.

Jeremy Feinberg contacted me the next summer (1997) and I invited him into my lab as my first graduate student. I strongly encouraged him to join me in New Jersey, but he really didn’t want to work on a project so far from home. This was to be the first of many times Jeremy benefitted from not following my advice.
