This week we received word of two Knot ring recoveries from the BTO. These birds were found dead at two separate locations on islands in the Wadden Sea on the northwest coast of Germany. Just as this time last year, the blog has taken a backseat recently to fieldwork for much bigger, darker birds than Black-headed Gulls! Brood of four large Raven chicks in Co. Down. We have more than doubled the number of Raven nests we're monitoring for the NI Raptor Study Group since 2014 and this has taken up much of our time of the past few weeks. Friday, 17 April 2015. Things are certainly on the move with migrating birds passing through and gulls returning to their wintering sites. We have had several reports of continental birds already back at Whitehouse Lagoon, Belfast Lough and at Antrim, Lough Neagh. I'll post a short update on the gulls in the next few days. I suspected a couple of them were birds ringed by Ewan Weston in NE Scotland and passed the sightings on.

Only read one Gull. Blue [1MC]. This Gull was in Bullock Harbour in April 2013. It is good to see individuals again especially in a different location. Sunday, 1 September 2013. September 2013 Gulls, Swans a heron! I was in Howth Harbour by 6.30 am. Sunrise 7am. There are moves to do a full gull count in Ireland so roost site information is being collected. My aim was to roughly count what was roosting., but Howth Harbour is floodlit and when I arrived there were hundred of gulls circling high above the harbour and none where I thought they roosted! Grey Heron - Penguin enclosure! Look out for yellow oystercatcher rings! Another Isle of Man Darvic.
