I was thinking back to when we were little kids. All growing up in a coal camp holler. Remembering all the simple things. Like you were rich if you had only one dollar. I decided to take y'all down memory lane. To make you think on the good things.not on sorrow. I decided to focus on the good we'd remember. Thoughts about yesterday.not about tomorrow. Weenie roasts and softball games. A neighborhood full of familiar names. Fall festivals, cake walks, and Bible school. Real candy apples and homemade fudge.

The following shows a pay envelope issued to my grandfather in 1943. Wages were paid in cash which was included inside of the envelope. Wages during the middle of World War II had increased significantly from the previous decade. Notice the Victory Tax deduction on the front of the envelope.
