It's important to realise that the tracks are signposted in only one direction. Signs may not be clearly visible in the reverse direction. Cycle spares are available in the region from Maryborough, Castlemaine, Bendigo and Ballarat but shops are unlikley to be open Saturday afternoon or Sunday so it is wise to carry the usual spares including spare tubes and cables. Mobile phone reception is quite reasonable with a Telstra tower at Dunolly and at Mt Moliagul.

Recent developments (June 2015) have seen inclusion of the Dunolly Cycle Tracks on Open Street Map and Open Cycle Map. This is an open source web mapping system that is used by a number of smart phone applications (apps). It means that you can navigate the tracks by using the GPS in your phone and also find your way over various bush tracks, now also added to Open Street Map. Apps that work this way include:. Open Street Map (via web browser) www.openstreetmap.org. BiCycle.com (iPhone and Android).

Dunolly is a small Central Victorian goldfields town of around 500 people. Many old buildings remain and the town is well serviced with a caravan park, two hotels, cafe, butcher, supermarket, gold prospecting shop and service station (petrol). The main regional town is Maryborough twenty kilometres away.
