The name Ardmore is Gaelic for high grounds or hills. Haliburton and Noble Energy companies were started in Ardmore. A 1915 disaster killed 45 people (railroad car containing casing gas exploded in downtown). A 1966 plane crash killed 83 people just outside Ardmore. In the early 1900′s Ardmore was known as the world’s largest inland cotton port. Ardmore is home to several regional distribution centers (Best Buy, Dollar Tree, Dollar General).
