Sweating Like Ebert: January 2013

05 January, 2013. Dokk's Top 100 Tunes of 2012 by iTunes Playcount. I enjoyed doing this last year, so here it is again. 212" rocked my world, clearly, and Ghostigital released 'Division of Culture and Tourism' which got a lot of play with me. But other top discoveries of the year were definitely Absofacto, Grimes and Miike Snow. What's up with this video though? Not a video at all, but I love this track. I have no idea how 'Baggy Trousers' made it into the top 100. None at all. 1 212 (ft Lazy Jay).

Sweating Like Ebert: December 2009

13 December, 2009. In Celebration of First Features: #2 - The Coen Brothers' "Blood Simple". It's as if the Coen Brothers emerged on the independent film scene as a mature visual storytelling force without any fumbling first steps. To revisit this now, embarking on my first feature, is as overwhelming as it is unnerving. As Matt Murray puts it in his review, "Blood Simple" is a "near-perfect example of what good planning can get you.". Being reminded of all this has given me another set of creative optio...

06 April, 2013. I will do what I have to do as if Roger was looking over my shoulder" - The good soldier of cinema: Roger Ebert June 18, 1942 – April 4, 2013. Roger Ebert's passing is an immeasurable loss. Countless words have been shared by those who knew and loved him, who were inspired by him and who were encouraged by him. I have little new to add, but would rather share my favorite words written about him, here from filmmaker Werner Herzog:. Werner Herzog, April 4, 2013 (via EW). Rest in peace, Roger.

Sweating Like Ebert: November 2009
http://sweatinglikeebert.blogspot.com/2009_11_01_archive.html
29 November, 2009. Life and the Short Film. The problem with making narrative short film is always one of how do you find your audience? With the current glut of online video content portals to choose from, how do you an already overloaded audience to take you seriously enough to commit the 10-30 minutes to watch a dramatic short that has no star power or media buzz? And then last month I was invited to see an anthology feature project that had an innovative solution. How will they fit in that line?
