Random thoughts. Musings. What the hell ever. Monday, August 31, 2009. Corn fritters and canned tomatoes. Friday night, S and I went to the cottage. The first time I've been there in almost a month. It was so relaxing. I made corn fritters. (Recipe found on Duyvken's blog here. S kept remarking on how sweet the fritters were. I used no sugar, just wonderful Michigan sweet corn. They were yummy and will have to be made again soon. Home made Bloody Mary mix. Friday, August 28, 2009. It's a Heavenly Day.

Oh it’s beginning to feel a lot like Christmas. 1kg rhubarb, to make 600g when trimmed. Chop the rhubarb and divide into two jars (I just did it in one large one). Add the sugar and shake well. Store in a cool and dark place for at least 6 weeks and up to 6 months. For the first month try to remember to shake the jar every other day.

This is a firm family favourite, of course it is, it involves deep frying, but the chicken is so so tasty I can see past the painfulness of cleaning up post fry. You still get splatter but nothing like what I was getting using a wok. Delicious little bite-sized pieces of fried chicken with an earthy five-spice salt. 4 cloves garlic, crushed.
