Tuesday, August 13, 2013. Aug 10: Chapter 14 - Parting is Bitter Sweet. Our final day. Rob, Gillian and Tommy headed out early today to tie up some last minute loose ends at SACRO while the rest of us enjoyed a more leisurely start to the day. Once we were all back together we headed off to the Pre-School in Mbabane for a visit with the little ones. Upon our arrival we were greeted by the welcome wagon - smiling faces all ready to play with us. Wait till you go head to head with a Swazi child! Kelly - Co...

Swaziland - Developing World Connections: Aug 2: Chapter 6 - The Sweet Smell of Success...and Fat Cakes!

http://dwcvolunteersinswaziland.blogspot.com/2013/08/aug-1-chapter-6-sweet-smell-of.html

Thursday, August 1, 2013. Aug 2: Chapter 6 - The Sweet Smell of Success.and Fat Cakes! What a fantastic day! It began with a few of us participating in Bob's Bootcamp as we waited for the work to begin. Don't let his sweet smile fool you; the man is a Drill Sargent. Shadrack arrived and the work began in earnest. With plenty of tools, plenty of know-how, and plenty of strength we successfully installed two functioning, lockable garage doors. HOORAY! As the afternoon progressed with a second garage door b...

Tuesday, May 19, 2015. Sri Lanka - Last Day: Celebrating Together. The day is hot and beautiful as Team 11 sets out together to inspect all the worksites. For the last 10 days we were divided into three teams rotating daily through all locations so it is very exciting to have a chance to take a good look around and see all that has been accomplished. This site started with a few holes in the ground and it was back breaking work to dig, build a complete foundation and support columns and start to brick th...

Thursday was a quieter day around each project site with finishing touches (install toilet, fishing concrete, roof and doors) being complete by Mr. Son and ourselves. Friday, we say good by tongue Spring Valley Resort (our home for the last two weeks) and begin our trip back to Phnom Penh. Monday, January 31, 2011. And then the wheel came off and other adventures… our final days in Sri Lanka. The rest of the team went to the job site to spend a final day trying to finish a few tasks; painting (a lovely Sri Lankan yellow color that is growing on us), bricking two half walls, pouring five more columns…. All was accomplished despite the skies opening up after lunch with a torrential downpour! About 45 minutes into the drive, the wheel came off (literally) one of the vans. The driver got n...

Sierra Leone - Developing World Connections

Thursday, April 24, 2014. April 24th: A bittersweet goodbye to our new friends. Today wrapped up the last day of work at the Temple of Faith Primary School in George Brook. It was bittersweet because we are all feeling like it's time to go home to see friends and family; however, we are sad to say good-by to new friends here. A few tears were shed and I am sure there will be a few more, but what a awesome time we have had! The volunteer team with members of the George Brook community. I must say that it ...

Tanzania - Developing World Connections

Thursday, November 15, 2012. Nov 15: Christmas in November at the preschool. We've had a fabulous couple of days. We set up a preschool for the little ones that follow us everywhere we go. The resource center was full of coloring books and crayons that no one seemed to be aware of so we set up different tables in the freshly painted room and introduced the kids to watercolor paints and coloring pencils and pastels. They kids sat at the tables and were absorbed for hours! Tanzania, November 2012. It&#8217...
