A Year in Korea

A Year in Korea. Friday, October 15, 2010. Thursday, October 14, 2010. Friday, October 1, 2010. But the kids loved it- and surprisingly no one was hurt. When we were all finished for the day, all the classes lined up to walk back to the school and head home. The kids were a lot of fun to hang out with and it was another nice day away from school. A Year in Korea: April 2010

http://www.dyerinkorea.blogspot.com/2010_04_01_archive.html

A Year in Korea. Sunday, April 18, 2010. Finally got to the beach this weekend to visit my friend Priscilla who's teaching over there. We've been trying to get together for months now but always had conflicting schedules. I'm glad I got to go in the springtime though, it's beautiful right now with all the cherry blossoms just starting to come out. Spring is finally here! Great weekend, but I'm wishing I could still be at the beach :) Good thing I love my town too! Seollal (Lunar New Year). They also have...

A Year in Korea. Tuesday, February 2, 2010. And of course we finished off the meal with a little soju- a new kind for me flecked with bits of gold leaf and flavored with preserved plums- and some of the amazing dried persimmons from their farm. Such a great day! My co-teacher is actually taking the picture, in the picture are me, his wife and daughter, and another teacher from our school.). Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). A Year in Korea: October 2009

http://www.dyerinkorea.blogspot.com/2009_10_01_archive.html

A Year in Korea. Friday, October 30, 2009. Posting this several weeks after the fact, but I found a Korean cookbook written in English and have begun experimenting with some actual Korean cooking at home. My first attempt was gimbap, which is much like a sushi roll except that it is filled with cooked meats and vegetables instead of raw fish. Really tasty, and packs well for lunch or hiking :) I made mine with canned tuna and it was really tasty! English Town (my second school). Seong Dong Chaddon Hakkyo.

Third Rock From The Sun: November 2009

http://myskadventure.blogspot.com/2009_11_01_archive.html

Friday, November 27, 2009. Here's an interesting articles that I read recently. It's available at. Http:/ blog.educationusa.or.kr/category/history-and-background/, it's part of a series of essays that can be downloaded at http:/ blog.educationusa.or.kr/wp-content/uploads/2008/04/korean-culture-essays-hhunderwood.pdf. Dr Horace. H. Underwood. Well, you knew that Korean culture was hierarchical. But do you know what that really implies? I mean, it's arranged vertically! In 1885, and later founded. Not bein...

Third Rock From The Sun: November 2008

http://myskadventure.blogspot.com/2008_11_01_archive.html

Sunday, November 30, 2008. We have a new homely home. Hello to all of you busy. The apartment is well laid out and feels spacious, it has a decent view and an awesome bathroom. On top this it comes with some furniture and we are the first tenants. It is close to the old one which means we will continue to shop at Homeever, which is above the bus stop, and socialise with James and Barbara. Loving the other English speakers in town, we are forming a nice little social circle. Saturday, November 15, 2008.

Third Rock From The Sun: October 2009

http://myskadventure.blogspot.com/2009_10_01_archive.html

Saturday, October 24, 2009. Hey everyone, here’s my weekly round up. So I was sick on Monday, as in genuine sick at home sick. Not that I know any other type of sick; but I was worried that the teachers at school may have thought that I was not sick, but rather skiving off. So I deliberated taking the day off but in the end my not wanting to pass on the germs and genuine sick feeling won out. The best thing about all of this is that I finally feel that I am engaging the more hyper students, I feel like I...

Third Rock From The Sun: May 2009

http://myskadventure.blogspot.com/2009_05_01_archive.html

Sunday, May 10, 2009. Saving, Saving, Saving. You know I came to Korea with the intention of saving, saving and saving. It was my only thought, and yet seven months in my account does not reflect the millions and millions of Won that I had hoped it would. This has been bothering me of late. But my life is not all glumness. I have in the last seven months had some amazing experiences. So here’s a list of totally incredible things that I have done. (It is in no particular order). I bought a scooter. I have...

Third Rock From The Sun: December 2009

http://myskadventure.blogspot.com/2009_12_01_archive.html

Saturday, December 12, 2009. Life continues at break neck pace over here. Jess and I are busy every weekend and have our weekends planned well into January next year. I’ve neglected uploading news of my life to my blog, and I see that I failed to mention that I went to Japan a couple of weeks ago. We took the ferry from Busan to Fukuouka on Saturday the 21. By the by, Japan was the 10. Country that I have visited! We are still looking into the trans-Manchurian as an option for October 2010, and my good f...

Third Rock From The Sun: April 2009

http://myskadventure.blogspot.com/2009_04_01_archive.html

Saturday, April 25, 2009. I submitted this opinion piece to the East Cape News editor. I had hoped that he would send it on to the Daily Dispatch or another suitably serious publication, instead he chose to publish it in his magazine, the Makana Moon. (The Makana Moon is a small Grahamstown magazine. It is presently only 12 pages long. I haven't seen it before as it is fairly new.). So this is not the start I'm looking for, but it is a publication. Many South Africans are still reeling from Mpshe’s...

http://myskadventure.blogspot.com/2009_02_01_archive.html

Tuesday, February 24, 2009. Look at my blog. It’s all writing, writing, writing. Where’s the appeal in that? There’s no bang for your buck or instant gratification, no wonder Jessica’s blog is pulling ahead in the number of hits – her’s. Is all ‘ooo what a pretty picture’ and how can I compete with that? Take that Jessica, how can you ever expect your cheap Power Point tricks to compete with the likes of Paris Hilton? 8211; that ubiquitous blonde that represents, represents. Why the fascination, and wh.

Third Rock From The Sun: September 2009

http://myskadventure.blogspot.com/2009_09_01_archive.html

Tuesday, September 29, 2009. The teacher and the terror. My lessons have been going well recently but I faced a problem this morning, one which I have faced before and have not found an adequate solution to. At the heart of this problem is the huge difference in level between students in a class - some are semi-fluent, a handful of which you simply can’t shut up, and others can barely string a sentence together. So what does one do? Dive in and pass the role onto another student? What would you do? Jess ...

Third Rock From The Sun: June 2009

http://myskadventure.blogspot.com/2009_06_01_archive.html

Friday, June 19, 2009. Hello family and friends. Greetings from hot and sticky. The heat is really making teaching difficult. The students slouch over their desks and almost none of them have the energy to really participate. I’m going to have to adjust my lessons so that I don’t have to walk to much around the class room, otherwise I am not going to last either. The really scary thing is that those weigooks (foreigners) who have been here keep saying this only the beginning. The only headache in my life...

Third Rock From The Sun: Christmas 2009

http://myskadventure.blogspot.com/2010/01/christmas-2009.html

Saturday, January 9, 2010. Christmas has come and gone. It was so much better than last year’s Christmas, and I feel that our effort to make the most of the long weekend really paid off. It was jam packed with goodness, fun, friendship and a sprinkling of booze. In the evening we watched Sherlock Holmes, on the big screen, before catching a bus home. On Sunday evening Simon, Dan and Melissa joined us for dinner at our home. It was a three course affair, eaten under candle light. Jess on Christmas eve.
