Stopping Starting-up | Paul Dyson’s Blog
https://pauldyson.wordpress.com/2011/12/05/stopping-starting-up
Paul Dyson’s Blog. Random thoughts about stuff that interests me. I love start-up. The early ‘wouldn’t it be great if …’ conversations, the commitment to going on a journey into the unknown, the first days when absolutely nothing is in place and things like name, logo, and website are the focus of endless creative conversation, the first customer, the first hire …. Its a hell of a ride. For would-be investors to the well-intentioned but somewhat ill-executed Startup Britain. But once you’ve started...

Being Extreme: Agile and Organizational Change Management
http://beingextreme.blogspot.com/2005/12/agile-and-organizational-change.html
A blog from the fingers of an Agile/XP old timer. Thursday, December 15, 2005. Agile and Organizational Change Management. The field of Organizational Change Management (OCM) addresses the issues arising when trying to change the behaviours in an organization, but on the whole whenever I talk to Agile coaches or consultants they seem to ignore the fundamentals of OCM and are often ignorant of them! Next time you meet an Agile consultant ask them who John P. Kotter is? Let me give an example:. I think it ...

Being Extreme: December 2005
http://beingextreme.blogspot.com/2005_12_01_archive.html
A blog from the fingers of an Agile/XP old timer. Thursday, December 22, 2005. I'm no expert on Software Factories. But frankly I am a skeptic. I have spent a day or so reading about them on the InterWeb. At the behest of one of my colleagues. There are several very well written articles on Software Factories out there. I particularly like the Jack Greenfield articles on the Microsoft site (Parts 1. I'm not sure about the first two, but I'd agree with the 3rd. The value in Industrialization in manufactur...

A blog from the fingers of an Agile/XP old timer. Thursday, November 24, 2005. Agile Letter to The Guardian. I never really believed it was worth writing to newspapers, however, I was irritated by an article by Ed Hasted. In the Technology Guardian sufficiently to respond. I got a call from Bernard Horan. To tell me that they'd published an excerpt. From it on the letters page! So now I believe in writing letters to newspapers - look out Mr. Murdoch! Posted by John S Nolan @ 11:52 am. I do not believe th...

Being Extreme: Team Building Exercises? Bah! Humbug!
http://beingextreme.blogspot.com/2005/11/team-building-exercises-bah-humbug.html
A blog from the fingers of an Agile/XP old timer. Tuesday, November 15, 2005. As the season is soon to be upon us I feel comfortable issuing a "Bah! Opinion on the notion of Team Building Exercises. I find the notion of Team Building Exercises such as Go-Karting, Karaoke, Party Games, Chicken Stuffing, whatever! As pointless. I have always had this sneaking suspicion that they are merely excuses for people to have fun at the company's expense. Bah! Now don't get me wrong! Posted by John S Nolan @ 5:53 pm.

Being Extreme: Breakfast in NY with Ken Schwaber
http://beingextreme.blogspot.com/2005/12/breakfast-in-ny-with-ken-schwaber.html
A blog from the fingers of an Agile/XP old timer. Monday, December 12, 2005. Breakfast in NY with Ken Schwaber. Hosted a breakfast for about 30 senior people from NY banks who were interested in hearing about Agile in Capital Markets. Ken Schwaber came along to add further weight to the Scrum. Most of the questions were not a surprise:. Can you do this if your QA is offshore? Yes, and.but.]. Do you mean do the architecture in 30days? Then the design in 30days? Can you do Agile without XP? It was great ha...

Being Extreme: Do or Do Not Do. There is no Try.
http://beingextreme.blogspot.com/2005/11/do-or-do-not-do-there-is-no-try.html
A blog from the fingers of an Agile/XP old timer. Friday, November 04, 2005. Do or Do Not Do. There is no Try. May well be an Agile master. His sage advise came back to me again in a recent discussion with some colleagues about adopting a stand-up practice for the whole company. Quite often I find that people try to adopt Agile practices a little at a time - in this case do it with a few people to see if it works rather than the whole team. The lets- try. How do you do it? What if its the wrong thing?
