Living the urban/bicycle life. Finding Joy in our Urban Life. Cherry Creek Bike Path-Autumn. While we still consider our life an adventure, we are now enjoying the part where we have established a home base in. As we’ve mentioned on our blogs, the bike paths follow the creeks and rivers that thread through the Denver metro area and wind around the city to the suburbs. Denver’s many parks and huge old trees provide habitat for birds, and as avid birders, we are always looking and. If you have questions ab...

Living the urban/bicycle life. July 9, 2016. Jim and Sharon's Big Adventure. We recently discovered that a flock of finches is called a charm of finches, a factoid that seems completely in character for these pretty songsters. For the two years we’ve lived in this apartment, we’ve watched, and written about, the house finch population residing in the building across from us. Jim took one look at me and what I had done and just shook his head. But I had a birdbath and as exhausted as I was, I was happ...

Living the urban/bicycle life. Gettin’ outta’ Dodge. Solstice 2015 →. March 23, 2015. Jim and Sharon's Big Adventure. Jim and I went for a bike ride on Saturday and searched the Highline Canal for early spring birds. We saw chickadees, nuthatches, flickers, Canada geese, magpies, mallards and squirrels — no spring migrants yet. Grasses are greening up and buds are swelling, but only Corispora tenella. Jim on the Highline Canal Trail. Keep smiling and think of spring! This entry was posted in Uncategorized.

Living the urban/bicycle life. Camping in July →. July 11, 2015. Jim and Sharon's Big Adventure. It was a true summer day in Denver yesterday. Flocks of fluffy white clouds meandered across a bright blue sky; temperature of 82 degrees, light breeze from the southwest. I was on my computer fine-tuning my new web site – all windows open – when rowdy, insistent bird chatter drew me out onto our balcony. This entry was posted in Uncategorized. Camping in July →. Living the urban/bicycle life. On the minus side, like countless others of retirement age, the tanking real estate market and the lack of jobs for older Americans forced us to reinvent ourselves sooner than we’d planned. So, in January of 2010, we decided to commit ourselves to planning an extended bicycle tour of the United States, and maybe even beyond. We would sell everything, including our condo in Idaho, and ride away on our bicycles on the Fourth of July. We had pretty high expectations of riding ...

Living the urban/bicycle life. A Blessed Event →. June 21, 2015. Jim and Sharon's Big Adventure. The past two years since Jim’s cancer diagnosis have tested us in ways that, we believe, life on the road prepared us for. We learned that we had the humility to open our hearts and minds to the kind people we met along the way. We expanded our capacity for compassion, honed our patience, learned to trust our instincts, and achieved a kind of grace that came from flexibility and good humor. Herbs in clay pots.

Living the urban/bicycle life. The Spice of Life. Winding down winter →. Gettin’ outta’ Dodge. February 25, 2015. Jim and Sharon's Big Adventure. Mt Ypsilon and Me. Jim and perfect snowball snow. As I sit in our room writing this blog, the predicted winter storm is blowing in. Through the sliding glass doors I can watch the wind send up spirals of snow and whip tree branches. I shouldered my first backpack here, broke in my first pair of hiking boots, climbed my first mountain and forded my first cold mo...

Dl clay, artist/maker. Welcome to EarthWord Studios. Dl clay, artist/maker. At my core, I am a poet. I use words to create story in the form of poetry. It is formed by the words I choose and how I place them on the page. Some poems take a long time to find their shape while others arrive almost fully formed. The mystery of creation. In my art I also follow the poet’s path using texture, colour, and various materials as my words. You can also find me at dlclay.com. As Neil Gaiman said.
