April 11, 2014. I spent the first half of my spring break in Lebanon with two friends from my program, Albert and Olivia. We stayed with Albert’s great-aunt, “Tante Affifeh,” in Beirut and were generously welcomed by her and all of his relatives. Yes, the State Department does have a travel warning. Monthly Archives: January 2014. 8220;Mustashfa Shmeisani”. January 28, 2014. I’m living with two other study abroad students in an apartment in a neighborhood in Amman called Shmeisani. No one here really uses addresses or street names, so to get anywhere you have to tell the cab driver a landmark. The landmark for our apartment is the Shmeisani Hospital, which in Arabic isمستشفى الشميساني or “mustashfa shmeisani” – say that three times fast! My bedroom – two beds to myself! April 7, 2014. We named our team “How Long’s It Been? 8221; after the Georgetown fight song. Because 5/6 of our runners were Hoyas. Pre-race team selfie, of course. The race runs down through the desert on the eastern border of Jordan from the Dead Sea to Aqaba on the Red Sea. It’s a total of 242 kilometers or about 150 miles. April 23, 2014. We had a three day weekend for Easter so naturally I decided to cross another one of the State Department’s favorite countries off my list! My roommate, Nora, and I went to Egypt for three days to see Cairo and Alexandria. The State Department has placed various travel alerts and warnings. Our tour guides were amazing! Of course we took a selfie with them at the Pyramids. Inside the Qaitbay guard tower – our favorite place in Alexandria. Nora and me on the Nile! Oldest synagogue in Egypt.
