I spent the week in San Francisco for training and it went better than expected. Beautiful city, swanky hotel, fabulous dinners and 15 hours a day of being "on". One friend who knows me so well she’s not afraid to be honest. The sound of my daughter’s laughter. A freshly sharpened pencil. Handmade quilt on the bed. A flower garden in the yard. Birds on my bird feeder. A good road map.

There’s something like a line of gold thread running through a man’s words when he talks to his daughter, and gradually over the years it gets to be long enough for you to pick up in your hands and weave into a cloth that feels like love itself. My father died last Sunday at age 87 and I miss him. The fact that he lived a long and happy life is comforting but I selfishly wish I had more time to hear his voice and laugh with him.
