Tales from the Creek

Tales from the Creek. Wednesday, 24 December 2014. Bit of a funny old year, after losing the shed i had to revert back to working from a much smaller workshop. First job was to finish a new rowing Skiff for a customer, i had started setting her up at the Scout hut but had to break the building jig down again when i moved out. He had originally enquired about one of the 18ft Hanningfield Skiffs but felt it was too much boat for him and his young family. Here she is on launch day! Monday, 5 May 2014. The G...

Tales from the Creek: Launching Continued

http://www.eastcoastrowing.blogspot.com/2014/05/launching-continued.html

Tales from the Creek. Monday, 5 May 2014. Just got sent a few more photos by a friend Graeme sweeney who took these from the yacht club as we went past. He is available for Weddings, Barmitzvahs and of course marine photography! This was just as she set off for the first time, great thing was after the first three strokes the crew broke into a spontaneous cheer as the Gig accelerated! The smiles say it all, Cox needs to lay of the pies though! Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). View my complete profile.

Tales from the Creek: Out at last

http://www.eastcoastrowing.blogspot.com/2014/01/out-at-last.html

Tales from the Creek. Sunday, 12 January 2014. A good day today, a crew of friends assembled to help move the new Gig out of the shed. A nice sunny day made it easy! Left to Right Penny, Pierre, Adrian and my son Nick. Also helping were Southend Coastal Rowing club chairman Pat o Connor and Craig elliot. General consensus was that she seems slightly lighter than Dauntless. There was about 1" clearance either side of the door just enough to get her out. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

Tales from the Creek: November 2013

http://www.eastcoastrowing.blogspot.com/2013_11_01_archive.html

Tales from the Creek. Monday, 25 November 2013. Heres a postscript to the story. Last week i was working down the yacht club and found the old moulds that built the gigs Dauntless and Proud Mary, i had thought they were scrapped in a Club clear up years ago but somehow they escaped the bonfire. There they were poking out of the brambles! This bought it all back, and is an example of how to build a cut and shut! I started with one of the 18ft Skiffs from Hanningfield reservoir. Years later when the club d...

Tales from the Creek: September 2013

http://www.eastcoastrowing.blogspot.com/2013_09_01_archive.html

Tales from the Creek. Thursday, 5 September 2013. More sanding and painting! Well im nearly there, days and days of fairing and sanding, three coats of hi build primer and most of it sanded away again! This was the second coat of Hempels light primer undercoat, it is good stuff and sands really well. As you can see a lot of it is on the floor. I looked like an extra from Braveheart! Tools used Rupes long bed orbital sander. Sealey Random orbital sander. And this is the result. A poor mans spray job!

Tales from the Creek: May 2013

http://www.eastcoastrowing.blogspot.com/2013_05_01_archive.html

Tales from the Creek. Monday, 13 May 2013. Much progress today, the foam arrived early so it was straight down the hut and crack on. Sheerline is adjusted slightly and sheer battens fastened on. half the stringer battens fitted each side. Tried a section of foam core to see how it lays and it wraps round really easily and takes a degree of compound curving. Rest of battens go on tomorrow. Heres a shot of the sharp end, she has a nice bit of flare to help sea keeping. Nothing like a challenge! The long ch...
