Have you got a signal?: August 2015
http://getasignal.blogspot.com/2015_08_01_archive.html
Have you got a signal? Tuesday, 25 August 2015. The Long and the Short of it. It’s become a bit of a balancing act of late – fitting in all of the short races, but still compiling the sort of overall mileage required for an impending marathon. A tiddler of a race at the weekend, especially if on a Sunday, can put a big hole in your total distance for the week – the race itself is neither here nor there, and you don’t want to do too much the day before or else you might spike your guns. Following my usual...

Have you got a signal?: May 2015
http://getasignal.blogspot.com/2015_05_01_archive.html
Have you got a signal? Monday, 25 May 2015. Another week day night, and another town festival run. This time the Balerno Rigg Race, which forms part of their Children's Gala Week. Well what else are you going to do on a Bank Holiday Monday? However, we are in danger of getting ahead of ourselves. Last year I did this race the day after the Edinburgh Marathon. The marathon had been a near total disaster and I was determined to get right back on the horse and salvage something from the weekend, sore le...

Have you got a signal?: June 2015
http://getasignal.blogspot.com/2015_06_01_archive.html
Have you got a signal? Monday, 29 June 2015. A long, but ultimately satisfying, day out this. Having allowed time for eventualities such as traffic and roads we of course got a clear run and arrived before 8 for a 10 o'clock start. The public toilets weren't even open! The place was buzzing when we arrived. Don't mess with the local ducks. This mother duck and her ducklings were all carrying concealed flick-knives. A crocheted shelter - Braemar isn't twee at all. Take your pick of the war memorials.

Have you got a signal?: Tour of Fife - Stage 5 - Mega Monimail Trail/Hill Race
http://getasignal.blogspot.com/2015/08/tour-of-fife-stage-5-mega-monimail.html
Have you got a signal? Sunday, 2 August 2015. Tour of Fife - Stage 5 - Mega Monimail Trail/Hill Race. And somehow we have come, all too soon (but actually after what seems like an eternity) to the end of the road. I must have become Tour/battle hardened because I managed to let the guys talk me into an incredibly late start - picking up Willie in Musselburgh at 11.15, and Andrew, Michael and Peter in Leith at 11.30. We almost got there late at 12.30. Take me to church - OUR service starts at 2pm. Other p...

Have you got a signal?: March 2015
http://getasignal.blogspot.com/2015_03_01_archive.html
Have you got a signal? Monday, 30 March 2015. Martin and I agreed, back in January, that as we were both doing the Fling this year it would make sense to do a recce at some point. Because of other races and Martin's achilles issues, the 28th and 29th of March looked like our best opti on. So we went ahead and made arrangements, bookings, etc. But we decided to crack on anyway. Just after parking up in Milngavie. So fresh, so green, so full of hope. War memorial in Milngavie. Ready for the off! But we got...

Have you got a signal?: Tour of Fife - Stage 4 - Cambo Estate Trail Race
http://getasignal.blogspot.com/2015/08/tour-of-fife-stage-4-cambo-estate-trail.html
Have you got a signal? Saturday, 1 August 2015. Tour of Fife - Stage 4 - Cambo Estate Trail Race. This was my favourite day of the Tour so far. Getting the Uphell Time Trial out of the way was a real weight off of my shoulders. With the sun shining, and the promise of a nice traily course without too much in the way of hills, today didn't carry much in the way of fear. This reminds me of a low budget shoot for a rock band's album cover art. The Usual Suspects (i.e. the lead 5) immediately jumped ...It wa...

Have you got a signal?: April 2015
http://getasignal.blogspot.com/2015_04_01_archive.html
Have you got a signal? Monday, 27 April 2015. The HOKA Highland Fling 2015. Anyway, on the basis that it’s just opened on Entry Central and you don’t want to miss out. Plus, it was ages away yet, so no need to worry about it too much. Middle child (Georgia) was her typically blunt self when I told her what I’d done – “oh my God, you’re going to die”, being her pithy assessment. Loading up the Green Meanie. Friend, and recce partner, Martin. Team East Lothian (minus Andy S). My expression perhaps belies m...

Have you got a signal?: July 2015
http://getasignal.blogspot.com/2015_07_01_archive.html
Have you got a signal? Friday, 31 July 2015. Tour of Fife - Stage 3 - Uphell Time Trial. I'll try to keep this brief, in keeping with the relative brevity of the stage. 1.4 miles up the road to the East Lomond car park, at an average gradient of 10%. It's fair to say that I'd been bricking myself before, convinced I would lose time hand over fist. We had a warm up to the summit. But I'm pleased to report that I did indeed manage to channel the spirit of Jens Voight, told my legs to "shut up! Michael, Pet...
