Eating L.A.

Sunday, October 01, 2017. Celebrate 90 Years of Taix French Restaurant With a 90 Cent Chicken Dinner. Taix in 1956 (Courtesy LAPL). It's not quite L.A.'s oldest restaurant, but Taix French Restaurant. Is certainly one of the city's most beloved. The venerable old-school French dinner house, which moved to Sunset Blvd. from downtown in 1962, celebrates its 90th birthday this month with a traditional roast chicken dinner for 90 cents. On Sunday, Oct. 8 from 4 pm to 8 pm. I love the slogan on one of the ori...

Eating L.A.: Beer Belly: Cruncha cruncha burning love

http://eatingla.blogspot.com/2011/08/beer-belly-cruncha-cruncha-burning-love.html

Tuesday, August 02, 2011. Beer Belly: Cruncha cruncha burning love. Catfish 'n chips in a bag, with shaking and dipping sauces. I've been to Beer Belly. Is a little beer bar hidden in the back of a Koreatown parking lot, that rocks a rotating selection of craft beers, a tightly-edited menu full of crunchy, crispy, salty dishes that pair perfectly with beer and a friendly crew headed by owners Jimmy and Yume Han and chef Wesley Lieberher. Even hopheads need their roughage. One night, pork belly sliders co...

Eating L.A.: Lacha Somtum: the Thai Restaurant You Should be Going To

http://eatingla.blogspot.com/2015/04/lacha-somtum-thai-restaurant-you-should.html

Saturday, April 04, 2015. Lacha Somtum: the Thai Restaurant You Should be Going To. What if one of the best Thai restaurants in Los Angeles opened in Hollywood, but hardly anyone realized it? Has been quietly rolling along for about a year now, while trendier Thai restaurants in Silver Lake and Chinatown get all the attention. The restaurant attracted a small flurry of write-ups, mostly for its specialty in more than a dozen types of somtum. Papaya salad with black crab, Thai eggplant. Where puffed crisp...

Eating L.A.: Carousel Restaurant: When the Original is Still the Best

http://eatingla.blogspot.com/2015/05/carousel-restaurant-when-original-is.html

Saturday, May 09, 2015. Carousel Restaurant: When the Original is Still the Best. The interior is brighter and more open than before. In this month's Los Feliz Ledger, EatingLA paid a return visit to Carousel. Which has recently redecorated. After more than 30 years, a recent facelift and a beer and wine license is the perfect reason to revisit Carousel in East Hollywood, which still turns out some of the city's best Middle Eastern cooking. Carousel is now serving beer and wine. Yourself dreaming of Caro...

Eating L.A.: Baja's wine country: Silvestre restaurant and Villa del Valle inn are standouts in the Valle de Guadalupe

http://eatingla.blogspot.com/2009/07/bajas-wine-country-silvestre-restaurant.html

Saturday, July 25, 2009. Baja's wine country: Silvestre restaurant and Villa del Valle inn are standouts in the Valle de Guadalupe. The relaxing veranda at Villa del Valle looks out across the hills. Baja's wine growing region, the Valle de Guadalupe. Here's a few recommended places to visit; a full list of wineries is available here. Cheese for us to try at a small market; the fresh, white cheese was springy and mild. Eileen and Phil Gregory opened La Villa del Valle. Pulling up to the discreet Silvestre.

http://hannahcooks.blogspot.com/2009/03/i-used-to-not-love-tomato-soup-so-much.html

Home cooking and occasional meals out in Los Angeles. Monday, March 02, 2009. I used to not love tomato soup so much but now I am kind of obsessed with it. The very best tomato soup recipe I know is from Sally Schneider's The Improvisational Cook. And involves her versatile slow roasted tomatoes.  But the version above, from Vegetable Soups From Deborah Madison's Kitchen. Is a pretty good bet when you only have canned tomatoes handy and the souffleed cheese toast is to die for. . Pinch of baking soda.

Friday, December 2, 2011. MICHAEL EMERSON: A SHOOT I DID AWHILE AGO. I never posted photos from this shoot I did with for Hollywood to Hollyweird. As I had to wait for the images to be released, and then I got busy in my day job, life, etc. So I wanted to finally brag about a really fun shoot I did with talented actor Michael Emerson, director Michael Moutsatsos. And my friend and Videographer David McAbee. Check out the photos on The Michael Emerson Fanpage. Posted by Kelly E. View my complete profile.

Colleen Cuisine: Pinkberry left its wallet in El Segundo

http://colleencuisine.blogspot.com/2007/02/pinkberry-left-its-wallet-in-el-segundo.html

Restaurant Reviews, Gourmet Recipes and Food Ramblings. Sunday, February 25, 2007. Pinkberry left its wallet in El Segundo. Why, cruel world, why? I can deal with the rapidly-spreading virus that is Pinkberry infecting countless neighborhoods other than my own. But Pinkberry is getting a little too close to home with some new digs that are literally WITHIN WALKING DISTANCE of my office. I mean, if I were desperate enough,. Yes, come June, I'll be hooked up to the IV once again. Posted by Colleen Cuisine.

From Hemingway to Hollywood: January 2012

http://fromhemingwaytohollywood.blogspot.com/2012_01_01_archive.html

From Hemingway to Hollywood. 8220;Those who danced were thought to be quite insane by those who could not hear the music.” - Angela Monet. Thursday, 5 January 2012. 911 they killed Montgomery! Here are a few pearls of wisdom I can share with you; some call it "hindsight". When calling emergency services to report a car crash don't hysterically bleet down the 'phone "They killed Montgomery", unless of course Montgomery is a human being. Links to this post. Driving at 100 top down on the freeway past midnight. Serge would have approved. He would probably have said non. To the late night sugar coated doughnut that's currently gracing my ass, but so what, he's dead; let's live for the moment. The Serge Gainsbourg tribute concert. Links to this post. Eating kittens for breakfast. And other tasty tidbits. Wednesday, August 31, 2011. Week 4 - Tastespotting. This is by far my favourite week, lol. My chosen recipe was for Lightly Cooked Cherry Tomato and Ricotta Bruschetta. See http:/ www.herbivoracious.com/2011/08/lightly-cooked-cherry-tomato-and-ricotta-bruschetta-recipe.html. Eating Laramie | Adventures in dining out in Laramie, Wyoming

Adventures in dining out in Laramie, Wyoming. Winging it at Winger’s. August 23, 2009. Friday night I took a walk on the wild side. I had dinner at Winger’s ( 3626 Grand Avenue) and did not have something that had that spicy yet tangy sauce on it. There are actually items on menu that don’t have that addictive sauce on it. I tried one and have to report it was darn tasty. Simple good food. That’s all I can say for it. This restaurant hasn’t changed since I first dined there 7 years ago. I do me...One thi...

Eating Large for Small Potatoes – Delicious eats on a shoestring budget

Eating Large for Small Potatoes. Delicious eats on a shoestring budget. December 17, 2016. December 17, 2016. Yes, I am fully aware that we are on the cusp of Winter. Yes, I realize that s’mores are usually something you make in the Summertime over a campfire. But I don’t care, I was craving s’mores! And it really hit the spot. I shared this with my family, but I am telling you, in all honesty, I could probably make one of these just for me. It’s that good. Serves: 6 – 8 people. 1 1/2 cups cold milk.
