Vancouver: A Local's Perspective: February 2011
http://bcrobyn.blogspot.com/2011_02_01_archive.html
Thursday, February 24, 2011. Free Fred Herzog photography exhibits at the Equinox Gallery. Coal Harbour circa 1959 - photo by Fred Herzog. It's hard to believe that's what Coal Harbour looked like in 1959. It almost looks fake, but it's not. I mean, heck! Did Georgia Street really look like Kingsway back then? The photo is Fred Herzog's. It's one of the many Herzog photos featured at the Equinox Gallery. On South Granville. Herzog's work is featured in two exhibits at the gallery: Reading Pictures. Comme...

Saturday, June 25, 2011. Last night was the preview of the Cheaper Show 10 at a temporary venue set up on the corner of Kingsway and Broadway, just across the street from Our Town Cafe. The Cheaper Show is an art show where every piece is selling for $200. It's a way for artists - local and international - to showcase their work, while also providing art lovers with a way to purchase art without going broke. It's also a bit of a who's who of the Vancouver art scene, as always. Saturday, June 18, 2011.
Vancouver: A Local's Perspective: August 2010
http://bcrobyn.blogspot.com/2010_08_01_archive.html
Tuesday, August 31, 2010. Return to the Kootenays: Creston. I'm blogging from the last few hours of August 2010 in beautiful downtown Kaslo (in the Kaslo Hotel. No less) where the power in the entire town went out for 10 minutes about an hour ago. You don't know darkness until you're in a remote mountain town during a blackout. Come back to the Kootenays. And so here I am, one week later, not even, and I'm back in the Kootenays. Who knew I'd back here so soon? My destination this time? Of course, I was d...

Friday, June 18, 2010. AWOL in Toronto for NxNE. Young Galaxy at Toronto's Mod Club - June 17, 2010. Photo by Robyn Hanson for Guttersnipe. Just a quick update here from Toronto. That's right. I'm in Toronto right now - my first time (I know, I know). I've been invited to be the photographer for Vancouver-based Guttersnipe. Website for their NxNE festival coverage. Needless to say, my updates here are going to be hit and miss for the next little while. Will report back on my NxNE escapades shortly! This ...

Saturday, May 21, 2011. Brewery Creek Beer Festival - US. My first trip to the Armoury aka: the Beatty Street Drill Hall was a week ago Friday for the Brewery Creek Beer Festival - US as a part of the Vancouver Craft Beer Week. Imagine 20 or so American breweries serving craft beer in a giant drill hall. that was my Friday:. The orange blossom ale was intriguing. The Kentucky bourbon barrel ale was delicious. Re-up BBQ was there - they make amazing pulled pork sandwiches. Wednesday, May 11, 2011. Practic...
Vancouver: A Local's Perspective: November 2010

Friday, November 26, 2010. Scenes from a Vancouver Snow Day. Friday, November 19, 2010. Vancouver of yesteryear: A collection of Fred Herzog photos. Friday, November 12, 2010. Quintessential East Van scenes. Wednesday, November 3, 2010. And so Gordon Campbell resigns. I am by no means a political expert. Not even close. It's pretty embarrassing, and with exception to a passionate few, I'd say that the average Canadian, at least here in BC, is equally perplexed when it comes to local politics. The thing w...
Vancouver: A Local's Perspective: March 2011
http://bcrobyn.blogspot.com/2011_03_01_archive.html
Thursday, March 31, 2011. Sunday, March 27, 2011. Japanese plum blossoms outside my parent's house. Right now - this very week, even - is my favourite time of the year. I blame it on the cherry blossoms. There's something, almost like a pheromone, that gets released into the air when the cherry blossoms are in bloom, and it speaks to me at some sort of primal level, and all I want to do is go outside and bask in the gorgeousness of spring flowers. Monday, March 21, 2011. When I was invited to attend.

Saturday, April 17, 2010. Mr Pickwick's Fish and Chips. Food: * * * *. Service: * * * 1/2. The Denman location was busy busy busy on a Friday night. The servers worked hard there, but there was definitely a wait for the piping hot, freshly battered and fried fish. Fish selection was great, and that batter is probably the best fish and chips batter I've had. Hubbs liked dousing his chips in vinegar (yuck, really? Saturday, April 10, 2010. Food: * * * * 1/2. Service: * * * 1/2 (Take-out). Food: * * * * 1/2.

Sunday, January 23, 2011. PuSh Festival's La Marea. I accidentally stumbled upon the surreal film set-like performance, La Marea, on Water Street Thursday night. As explained by the Georgia Straight. More information at www.pushfestival.ca/. Needless to say, it made Gastown even more photogenic than it already is. Wednesday, January 19, 2011. Reflections of Haida Gwaii. Sunday, January 16, 2011. Brian Eno in Vancouver. Just never appealed to me. My loss, I suppose. Sun goes down on 2010. Vancouver foodie...

Sunday, December 26, 2010. I have been a busy girl. 2010 was a prolific year for yours truly as far as concert-going activities go. I'd like to say I don't keep track. The problem is, I do. Robyn's 2010 concerts in a nutshell. Louder Than Love, Waiting for Sunday, By Starlight @ the Railway Club - February 11. Nelly Furtado @ BC Place (for the Olympics Victory Ceremony) - February 14. Dal Richards @ Richmond Ozone (Olympics venue) - February 17. Philip Glass @ the Chan Centre - April 5. The Mountain Goat...
