Can You Dig It?: Chicken of the Woods Sighting!
http://can-u-dig.blogspot.com/2009/10/chicken-of-woods-sighting.html
Can You Dig It? Friday, October 30, 2009. Chicken of the Woods Sighting! While taking an afternoon walk around my neighborhood yesterday I stumbled across something that made my heart stop. Could it really be Chicken of the Woods? I felt like I was seeing a ghost. I had no idea this magnificent mushroom existed in California - let alone Los Angeles - let alone in my own neighborhood! While the mushroom I found growing from oak trees at Mrs. Bemis' is called Laetiporus sulphureus. I love that stuff!

Can You Dig It?: February 2007
http://can-u-dig.blogspot.com/2007_02_01_archive.html
Can You Dig It? Sunday, February 18, 2007. The last time I visited Mom and Dad's, Dad suggested we all take a drive to an area near Maiden Rock to check out some ice formations he had recently read about in the Pierce County Herald. Despite the intense cold (-10˚F), we made the trek and it was well worth it. At night the ice formations are illuminated by the shop lights seen in one or two of the photos. We left well before dark so I didn't get to see the night glow. Labels: The Nelsons Ice Project Salem.

Can You Dig It?: April 2008
http://can-u-dig.blogspot.com/2008_04_01_archive.html
Can You Dig It? Sunday, April 13, 2008. It's hot today but I HAD to plant because I've waited to long already! While I messed around in the garden Slim made this fantastic bat chateau for our friends Annie and Marc. Ideally, it will encourage bats to hang around by having a cozy pad to sleep in and, in turn, the bats will eat the bugs that would otherwise be irritating us as we dine in the moonlight. Perfect. ButterSuite: Team Catserole: Hooray!
http://buttersuite.blogspot.com/2009/11/team-catserole-hooray.html
Butter and Bodies: A Dairy Diary. Thursday, November 5, 2009. When my friend Andrew asked if I would collaborate with him on a casserole cook-off, I was reticent. My culinary skills are best served in a cake pan or with frosting. I relented because it was, after all, casserole and I'll do just about anything for cheese. If I were to develop a casserole recipe from scratch, a dream-casserole, what would it taste like? What textures would be most pleasing? Andrew's Mom's Recipe for King Ranch Chicken.

Butter and Bodies: A Dairy Diary. Thursday, May 28, 2009. It's Not Easy Being Green: Lime Sugar Cookies*. Tastes like a margarita without the booze. This recipe is one of my oldest non-family recipes. It is also one of the most labor-intensive and rewarding. The tastes (sour, sweet, salty) are rivaled only by the texture (crunchy on the outside, chewy in the center). They are, perhaps, the tastiest things I've ever put in my mouth. Bonus: they prevent scurvy! 6 Tables butter, softened. 1/2 c lime sugar.

Butter and Bodies: A Dairy Diary. Wednesday, July 29, 2009. Grandpas are Nice*: Toasted Walnut Oatmeal Butterscotch Cookies. Or what happens when you Google "oatmeal, butterscotch, walnut". I have a thing for old men: grumpy, dirty, or otherwise. Butterscotch reminds me of them and, more specifically, grandfathers. I've been lucky enough to have 4, though I've only known 3 (my paternal grandfather died when Dad was 17, but that's a story for another time). Toasted Walnut Oatmeal Butterscotch Cookies.

Can You Dig It?: Tony Duquette
http://can-u-dig.blogspot.com/2009/01/tony-duquette.html
Can You Dig It? Monday, January 26, 2009. Sadly, one garden I will never see is the garden seen here created by Hollywood Set, Jewelry, and Costume Designer as well as Interior Designer and all around incredible artist - Mr. Tony Duquette. A fire in the 1990's destroyed the entire site, however, you can enjoy his work in an amazing book titled Tony Duquette. Labels: Beverly Hills Gardens. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Can You Dig It?: February 2009
http://can-u-dig.blogspot.com/2009_02_01_archive.html
Can You Dig It? Sunday, February 22, 2009. I bought some Rue at the Silverlake Farmer's Market last week in hopes of planting it near my compost heap to discourage flies. A little research revealed a host of other beneficial qualities of this Medieval gem including love, creativity, settled stomach, and headache relief. My research also revealed that the lusty character Blanche Devereaux on T.V.'s The Golden Girls was portrayed by an actress named Rue McClanahan. Saturday, February 21, 2009.
