Chip Notes - eBird Buzz: "Summer" Bird Movements

http://ebirdforum.blogspot.com/2010/07/summer-bird-movements.html

Wednesday, July 28, 2010. I've mentioned on cayugabirds and Chip Notes that I have been taking part in the eBird Site Survey where I try to do the same counts as often as I can. This means that I watch from my yard most mornings for thirty minutes and have spent most evenings on the deck. I also do a couple loops through Monkey Run at least once a week. Hooded Merganser (13 July). Black-billed Cuckoo (14 July). Solitary Sandpiper (15 July). Chimney Swift (19 July). Least Flycatcher (18 July). The intent ...

Chip Notes - eBird Buzz: January 2010

http://ebirdforum.blogspot.com/2010_01_01_archive.html

Tuesday, January 26, 2010. The grand plan for 'eBird Alerts'. We recently launched a new service called 'eBird Alerts'. The first alert we have available is the "ABA Rarities" alert, which lists all of the rarities reported in the ABA area of Code 3 and higher. This simple feed will keep you up to date on all the rare birds seen recently, like the Ivory Gull in Georgia (! Or the first North American record of Amazon Kingfisher from TX a few days ago. Brian, Chris, and Marshall. Wednesday, January 20, 2010.

Chip Notes - eBird Buzz: February 2010

http://ebirdforum.blogspot.com/2010_02_01_archive.html

Wednesday, February 24, 2010. Feedback on 'State Needs Alerts'. Yesterday we launched the next wave of eBird alerts- the State Needs Alerts. The goal of these alerts is to send you notification on birds being reported in a given state, that you have not yet personally reported to eBird- essentially comparing your lists with all the new reports being submitted on a daily basis. See news item here: http:/ ebird.org/content/ebird/news/state needs alert. Brian and Team eBird. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

Arctic Smoke Signals: September 2010

http://kingeider.blogspot.com/2010_09_01_archive.html

Odd postings from the far North. Wednesday, September 29, 2010. We have four species of lousewort (Pedicularis) growing around our home here in the Colville Delta. With the different species we get a blooming period from early June through late August, and even a few stragglers into September if it is a warm summer. The habitat varies from dry polygon ridges to wet sedge meadows; all lousewort are edible though some have a tap root too small to be of much interest. One last photo showing a yellow Capitat...

Water droplets do not freeze at zero Celsius and so unlike a rainbow, you can have fog bows forming in temperatures below freezing. Arctic Smoke Signals: Spring Birding

http://kingeider.blogspot.com/2014/05/spring-birding.html

Odd postings from the far North. Wednesday, May 14, 2014. After a day of high winds and snow showers, the bright sunshine today made one want to get out for a birding trip. It would most likely be the last one by snow machine since we are just starting our break up period, and flowing water would stop land travel off our home island. About 4 miles up river I started seeing well defined shore leads as the advancing first water of break up moved our way. Snow Geese migrating westward. Most of the Willow Pt...

Arctic Smoke Signals: May 2010

http://kingeider.blogspot.com/2010_05_01_archive.html

Odd postings from the far North. Friday, May 28, 2010. A new Season Starting. The ice needs to lift up between two and half and three feet before it will crack and let the water flow out over the frozen-down areas. Start of breakup-first water. 160;                Clear brackish water boiling out of a blowhole. Dark waters are shore leads, white channel ice over the deep water. The number of birds around our feeders at one time has started to decline, as birds pair up and move out onto their nesting terr...

Arctic Smoke Signals: March 2010

http://kingeider.blogspot.com/2010_03_01_archive.html

Odd postings from the far North. Saturday, March 6, 2010. February was on the warm side for us, and that in turn led to many overcast/whiteout or stormy days.  On one of the better weather days, while on the cold side, I took advantage of the clear skies and sunshine for a trip. Arctic Smoke Signals: September 2012

http://kingeider.blogspot.com/2012_09_01_archive.html

Odd postings from the far North. Wednesday, September 12, 2012. With the lengthening of nights and cooler temperatures the yellows, gold, and reds of fall have replaced the Arctic tundra’s green of summer. This posting will be more of a photo essay to show the various fall plants and their colors. Arctic Smoke Signals: Spring Flooding 2013

http://kingeider.blogspot.com/2013/06/spring-flooding-2013.html

Odd postings from the far North. Saturday, June 15, 2013. Standing on snow machine to start the drilling operation to get through the thick ice. The early arriving Greater White-fronted Geese had a rough two weeks before there was much melting providing water and bare ground for feeding. Our Snow Buntings were three weeks later than the yearly average with the first male showing up at the feeder on May 6th. Male Snow Buntings waiting out a breezy snow squall. February 10, 2015. I’ve finished giving a recent tendon injury enough time to finally start climbing again (about 4 months). With my schedule, I’ll only have time to climb on weekends, and only time to hit the gym twice – for about an hour – during the week. So, here is what I’m thinking. Yin/Restorative Yoga – 30 minutes. Meditation – 10 minutes. Superset: Inverted Rows 3×8-12 and Bench Press 3×5-8. Superset: Pull-Ups 3×5-8 and Angled Press 3×5-8. Rest-Pause (Burn Set): Standing Calf Raises 30 reps.

Wednesday, March 23, 2011. What are the problem IDs? We recently published a news item highlighting the issue that many birders have identifying crows and ravens:.
