To live aboard for longer periods we decided we wanted a dining table but didn’t want to give up the saloon space permanently. We designed this system which quickly provides a table for 4 people but can be stowed to give more space when not required. As a Dining Table for four. Table stowed to give more space. Table slots into gap to provide a ‘cross bed’.

After getting up bright and early yesterday, we did some super-strength engine checks (basically the same as every day but we thought about them a lot), tidied up and then realised that we’d perhaps got up a little. July 19, 2013. I do like a moving bridge. The canal system has many and they are interesting and varied. Some go up like a drawbridge. Others rotate on a turntable. Some are enormous and only need to be swung for boats with masts. Some are on fairly significant roads so are equipped with barriers and beeping traffic lights. In East Yorkshire there’s even a swing bridge which a railway crosses and boaters must consult a train timetable before opening it! Sean opens a lift bridge on the Stratford canal.

The gauge reads half full so we can stop fretting about running out. We then set off but only travel a few hundred yards to moor at the public mooring so we can buy our Sunday morning treat of croissants and pain du chocolat. Sally and Charles Abroad. Up on to the Canal du Centre. It only takes a few hours to reach the huge lock No 34B which leads us on the Canal du Centre. We first experienced it last year and still find it quite daunting at 10.76 meters but the lock is operated mechanically and is very gentle. This huge lock is 10 metres deep! The quay at Fragnes.
