hopefulimagination: Counting Down the Days
http://hopefulimagination.blogspot.com/2011/12/counting-down-days.html
Monday, December 12, 2011. Counting Down the Days. We seem to be constantly at war with time here in the West, there’s so little of it in the day, and so few days in the ledger for our lives. At our backs we always hear, Time’s winged chariot hurrying near. Squeeze out every drop! Well try it on for size; try tasting the inside of a tomb’. But then time’s creator would never lay himself open to such an onslaught, surely? I suppose that’s what we’re waiting to find out during Advent. But should we choose ...

Where the Fire-drake Swings. Our homes are under miraculous skies. – G. K. Chesterton. Laquo; Beautiful Video of the Milky Way. How We Speak of God. The Death of bin Laden. May 2, 2011 by Nathaniel Johnson. America is rejoicing this evening, and rightly so. It is human to be a patriot. It is human to delight in the downfall of one’s enemy. Yet I would remind my fellow Christians that we are not patriots of the United States. We are citizens of the Kingdom of Heaven, and we follow a different order. This ...

High Heels, Short Skirts and Clerical Collars: 40 Beyond 400
http://beyondthepaleofimagination.blogspot.com/2012/01/40-beyond-400.html
High Heels, Short Skirts and Clerical Collars. Monday, 30 January 2012. The fact is, at my tender age, I grew up on a different page. I don’t come from a position of tradition or division. Christianity is relatively new to me. But clearly something made me say “Hey, I like the Baptist Way”. Some people may not agree with me, my delivery or the way I see it. Cause I’m not inclined to grieve what is lost if all that is lost is how much it will cost. People feel like they’re the one nobody cares about.

High Heels, Short Skirts and Clerical Collars: October 2011
http://beyondthepaleofimagination.blogspot.com/2011_10_01_archive.html
High Heels, Short Skirts and Clerical Collars. Friday, 14 October 2011. So I'm having a halloween party. At church. For the kids who come to our children's group. I know, I know, I'm evil right? Or are we hoping that if we keep telling them not to do it, they just won't, despite the fact their friends are, their schools are, and in lots of cases their parents are encouraging them to? Well if that's our hope, then more fool us. I don't know. Maybe I'm crazy, but I get the feeling that kids are going t...

High Heels, Short Skirts and Clerical Collars: February 2012
http://beyondthepaleofimagination.blogspot.com/2012_02_01_archive.html
High Heels, Short Skirts and Clerical Collars. Friday, 10 February 2012. Recent events in my life have led me to question what it means to be an effective leader. After all, isn't that what I'm supposed to be - a leader? And an effective one, at that? After watching the video, the church split into three groups to try and pull apart what the video was saying and how we felt it might or might not relate to our mission in Edgeside. So what does does it mean to be an "effective leader"? I work in arts and c...

High Heels, Short Skirts and Clerical Collars: Darkness
http://beyondthepaleofimagination.blogspot.com/2011/12/darkness.html
High Heels, Short Skirts and Clerical Collars. Friday, 23 December 2011. I was sitting alone, in the dark. In front of me I could see nothing, save for my breath misting out before my eyes in the cold air. There was an emptiness about this place, a feeling I couldn't shake. I didn't want to be alone. I didn't want to be in the dark. More and more, as the days went on, I argued with the voice, resenting it for keeping me in the dark, asking what truth it was keeping from me that the other voice had offered.

Saturday, December 25, 2010. Pause for Thought - Radio 2. This is Simon Woodman's Pause for Thought from today's Roger Royle programme on Radio 2. Reproduced on the Hopeful Imagination blog with kind permission from the BBC. You can listen again here. 30 minutes into the show. Good morning, and happy Christmas. It’s a strange day, Christmas day, isn’t it? And now it’s here, it’s arrived. So happy Christmas. And what, I wonder, will today hold? And also, we might wonder, what on earth it meant? The Canadi...

http://beyondthepaleofimagination.blogspot.com/2012_07_01_archive.html
High Heels, Short Skirts and Clerical Collars. Tuesday, 17 July 2012. It's been an extraordinarily long time since my last post. I wonder if I remember how to do it? I can only apologise for my absence in the blogging world, I've been trying very hard to concentrate on a piece of work that I'm doing for my NAM (Newly Accredited Minister) studies. In fact, the only reason I'm allowing myself and brief repartee to write this post now, is that I'm going to write about my essay. Could it be that this is as m...

The Ecclesial Vigilante
Note: I had originally planned to include Tyrell in my upcoming post on the original modernists. However, I decided to give him his own post as he did not fit into any sort of category. Many names mentioned here will be covered subsequently. Sometimes one can read a work by a man with work condemned by the church and feel great sympathy and regret for him. Origen’s entire extant body of work is excellent except his two bad ideas. Nestorius’. External Religion, Its Use and Abuse. 1903) As the “moder...
