Olivia's Blog: November 2010
http://livklose.blogspot.com/2010_11_01_archive.html
Saturday, November 20, 2010. I was really excited to learn about Parianware because it suddenly shed light on the kind of Vicorian family and culture that Granny came from: one where beauty for its own sake was highly valued, and yet made available on a mass scale through new industrial technologies. Apparently it was marketed in the United States before 1939. Now I need to ask Deborah or Tory if they remember the specific origins of Nana's Spode! Did Nana buy it at Macy's? Wednesday, September 22, 2010. Really, really old things. This was perhaps my favorite museum visit of the entire trip, and it was not really about building or architecture at all. It was about prehistoric mammals! Giants of the land before time! As only the Victorians could have mustered. September 23, 2010 at 6:22 PM. Wonderful account, Liv! Maybe Ill get to see it on my b-day trip next spring. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). View my complete profile. Really, really old things.

Welcome, Bienvenidos, Karibuni, Velkommen to the world of all things related to AK: Klose and Kyvik, New York and Norway, Musica y Deportes, Berzerkeley, Tanzania, London etc. Tuesday, November 16, 2010. A Birthday to Remember. So can anyone guess what my first present was? A colorful hammer bench for children 18 months and older! I didn't even take off my coat when I came in the door, I just grabbed our camera and headed out into the mystery, where I stood alone in the center of Finsbury Park taking eer...

Welcome, Bienvenidos, Karibuni, Velkommen to the world of all things related to AK: Klose and Kyvik, New York and Norway, Musica y Deportes, Berzerkeley, Tanzania, London etc. Friday, March 19, 2010. American Heroes in England. Football has been a big part of my initiation into English culture, from watching matches in pubs to chatting with people about their favorite teams (everyone's got one) and enduring good-natured ribbing from several friends for sporting my Aston Villa hat all winter long.

Welcome, Bienvenidos, Karibuni, Velkommen to the world of all things related to AK: Klose and Kyvik, New York and Norway, Musica y Deportes, Berzerkeley, Tanzania, London etc. Monday, June 07, 2010. Rage Against The Machine. But then, as the band launched into 'Know Your Enemy,' I decided to see if I could get closer, and it turned out I wasn't the only one with this idea. A shirtless drunk guy went running through police cordons and yanked down a set of temporary chain-link fencing separating us fro...

After all, we don't have any football songs like they do here, but if the USA continues on its current form, I may just have to write one. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Olivia's Blog: July 2010
http://livklose.blogspot.com/2010_07_01_archive.html
Tuesday, July 27, 2010. Back from the UK. I'm back home in Brooklyn after my architecture-nerd summer school program, and I now have the daunting task of making sense of my experience, e.g. trying to remember all the places and things we saw and learned about, sorting through more than 900 photos (ah, the Digital Age! And deciding on which "highlights" to share on my blog. Tuesday, July 13, 2010. Train stations, seaside resorts, country houses, and Chinoiserie. Friday, July 9, 2010. Back from the UK.

Olivia's Blog: an English garden
http://livklose.blogspot.com/2010/08/english-garden.html
Thursday, August 12, 2010. There's something so English about a rambling, slightly unkempt garden with small surprises - a sun dial, a lily pond- tucked away here and there, that it puts me in mind of. Peter Cottontail! August 13, 2010 at 1:30 AM. Hooray for industrious bumble bees and rabeals! Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). View my complete profile. A note on the photos. Flowers and model tenements. Wednesday, September 22, 2010. Really, really old things. This was perhaps my favorite museum visit of the entire trip, and it was not really about building or architecture at all. It was about prehistoric mammals! Giants of the land before time! As only the Victorians could have mustered. Thursday, September 2, 2010. This is the half-timbered structure I saw at the V&A (goes with the post below). I'm not even a Harry Potter fan. Stay tuned for a post on REALLY ancient things. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).
