Journal of an Eclectic Tongue

Journal of an Eclectic Tongue. Monday, 18 February 2013. I'm back from a visit to Wellington. A pleasant weekend away, I got to see jousting, mediaeval re-enactment, and metal weapons combat. What fun! Also I got to raid second-hand book stores for new material for my eclectic language project. Three new Teach Yourself books added to my collection. The third book I found was irresistable! TY Hausa from 1973! The patron saints of invented languages have been looking after me this weekend! Ossí ya dacha pi...

Journal of an Eclectic Tongue: June 2012

http://eclecticlanguage.blogspot.com/2012_06_01_archive.html

Journal of an Eclectic Tongue. Monday, 4 June 2012. Since I have time it is worth posting the next page from the McGuffey Reader. Especially since I have worked them out, and I can see the number of hits you gave me for posting. Please feel free to comment, question or complain. Maybe I can improve the messy presentation that blog-composer gave me last time. Cross fingers! 7] Binú tag' ume! 8] Binú tago taknok as umena! See the boy and the man! 9] Ta ume tent údnon pillon,. Journal of an Eclectic Tongue. Friday, 9 November 2012. Some final comments on this translation. The stem is rodina. The ending makes it into an abstract noun. I needed to create three words for names of bird species. I chose in the end to look in a guide to birds of my local city. I found out that 'starling' has been borrowed into Maori as taringi. I borrowed that word and disguised it as tadrin. Heron' came from the Maori word kotuku. To blow. Wúyayon. The word for rain is wua. The universe came into b...

Journal of an Eclectic Tongue: November 2011

http://eclecticlanguage.blogspot.com/2011_11_01_archive.html

Journal of an Eclectic Tongue. Friday, 11 November 2011. Sabbath day at the blue synagogue. The stem for the word for blue is blo. From a Scandanavian language I believe. It looks too obvious to me. I had been toying with the idea that the stem should be bol. Not a foolish idea as one rule I use is that words that end in -o in parent languages become the neuter-gender words ending in -on in Shente. Blue in Shente would be bol, bola, bolon. In masculine, feminine and neuter forms. View my complete profile.

A Sky Show, and some Homemade Apple Pie. Momma's homemade Apple Pie coming up. As much as I missed the ocean this weekend Apple Pie, no crowds or freeways, family, and a lot of family history was an amazing change of pace. When Malia looked at me and said "it's not 4th of July without Apple Pie" I knew exactly what she was saying, and I agreed! American Girl peeling apples. Big Beer, Little Lady, Greatful Dead tunes and lots of good times. Grandma still rules his world! Ribs, It's what's for dinner.
