Go Green for Antarctica Movement: Introduction – The Eco Backpacker
https://ecobackpacker.wordpress.com/2015/06/28/go-green-for-antarctica-movement-introduction
Travel and sustainability musings. June 28, 2015. June 27, 2015. Go Green for Antarctica Movement: Introduction. Antarctica will always hold a special place in my heart. In 2013 I was fortunate enough to be invited to join an expedition with 30 other young dedicated environmentalists from around the world to experience the icy continent first hand. Not only was I given the opportunity to join a two week expedition as far south as it is possible to go in the world, but I had to raise the funds to get there.

Travel and sustainability musings. May 8, 2014. La Senda Verde: First Thoughts of a conservation volunteer. This post is literally pulled from my journal from my time volunteering at the La Senda Verde Animal Rescue Centre in Bolivia. In the jungle. Credit: Morgan Pettersson. Each morning at around 6.30am we are woken up to a rattling and banging noise as Wara one of the spider monkeys tries to break into our room. Leave a Reply Cancel reply. Enter your comment here. Go Green for Antarctica: Why Antarctica? – The Eco Backpacker
https://ecobackpacker.wordpress.com/2015/07/21/go-green-for-antarctica-why-antarctica
Travel and sustainability musings. July 21, 2015. June 27, 2015. Go Green for Antarctica: Why Antarctica? Antarctica really is the last untouched wilderness on earth. The icy southern continent that evokes the spirit of adventure of polar explorers and untouched wonder. So why all of this fuss about Antarctica? It is the only continent on earth with no indigenous human population and as such no other country has claim over it. A place frozen in time. Since the first race to the pole back in the early 190...
Antarctica: Through the eyes of an Antarctic Youth Ambassador – The Eco Backpacker
https://ecobackpacker.wordpress.com/antarctica-through-the-eyes-of-an-antarctic-youth-ambassador
Travel and sustainability musings. Antarctica: Through the eyes of an Antarctic Youth Ambassador. Antarctica, the frozen continent home to penguins and a place of myth and mystic for many. For me, Antarctica conjures up images of tweed clad, fierce looking polar explorers battling against the elements to reach the South Pole. After a five month whirlwind of fundraising, gaining sponsors, getting medicals and buying expedition gear the day had finally come to fly half way around the world from Australia t...
Dry Season and Monkey Stalker: tales of a conservation volunteer – The Eco Backpacker

Travel and sustainability musings. June 3, 2014. Dry Season and Monkey Stalker: tales of a conservation volunteer. This post is literally pulled from my journal from my time volunteering at the La Senda Verde Animal Rescue Centre in Bolivia. The dry season is well and truly upon us here in the Yungas region of Bolivia at La Sende Verde. My stalker holding onto my leg. Credit: Morgan Pettersson. Yet suddenly overnight the rains have disappeared and a stifling heat has taken over. I have been sick for the ...

Educating in the Outdoors. Class is always in session. So if you’ve meandered onto this page, you’re probably looking to learn a little bit more about yours truly. Or maybe looking for embarrassing pictures, who knows? So my name is Chris, and I’m a mid twenties guy from central New York state. You know, the greener part with the rolling hills and dairy farms and the ability to see the sky when you look up. Yeah, that part. 8221; I graduated with a degree in biology and a passion for teaching. You are co...

Educating in the Outdoors. Class is always in session. June 30, 2014. June 30, 2014. Well, I’m smack dab in the middle of training right now. I’ve got a new very temporary (six weeks only) job for the summer before I move onto something a touch more long term (a year or so), and of course… training. Twelve hours a day, every day, for over a week. So I picked a crappy time to go ahead and start a blog, didn’t I? Yes, that is important! I overheard someone say it later but it was just quiet enough for me t...

Seven Hours to Go… | Educating in the Outdoors
https://educatingintheoutdoors.wordpress.com/2014/08/05/seven-hours-to-go
Educating in the Outdoors. Class is always in session. Seven Hours to Go…. August 5, 2014. Choose a job you love, and you’ll never work a day in your life. As I sit here, on my only break today (which isn’t actually a break, its time to prep for class), with seven hours left to go in my ten days straight of work, nine of those days being 14-15 hours long, I can safely say…. I totally have a right to complain. We’ll be back to your regularly scheduled bloggy-things whenever I feel like a human again.

Educating in the Outdoors. Class is always in session. July 25, 2014. July 21, 2014. So here’s the scene:. It’s 7:49AM. You’re in rural Virginia, walking down the stairs to meet your group of fifty seventh graders for breakfast (after being awoken exactly 7 times by one student during the night who insisted he was going to die). You get to the base of the stairs, open the door, and you see a group of students huddling around the water cooler. Students never hover around the water cooler. Honestly guys, h...

Educating in the Outdoors. Class is always in session. And so it Begins…. July 7, 2014. July 11, 2014. Today was our first full day with the campers we’ll have until Saturday. A mid-sized group of fifth and sixth graders (well… students that will be going into fifth and sixth, so in reality they’re fourth and fifth graders), and all of them seem to have…. Sorry, had to go get them to quiet down a bit. Just barely before lights out so… kids will be kids, I guess. And its my night off to boot. July 31, 2014.
