Half-Mooning: Face the Raven - Patchworks
http://patches365.livejournal.com/73579.html
Half-Mooning: Face the Raven - Patchworks. Half-Mooning: Face the Raven. Half-Mooning: Face the Raven. Nov 21st, 2015 @ 05:11 pm. I figured this episode would suck, but then I ended up eating crow. Where did THAT come from? This episode had, like, all of the stuff I've been missing in "Doctor Who" for the past few years. It had continuity, it had character, and it didn't make any glaring errors in science or history. This one's gonna be hard to snark. 21st century London, duh! Where else would they be?

The Chaos: Nalo Hopkinson's nightmare of Blackness: epicfantasy
http://epicfantasy.livejournal.com/377018.html
The Chaos: Nalo Hopkinson's nightmare of Blackness. Edited to disable auto-formatting. Drawing on myths from Jamaica to Russia, on folk tales of Coyote and Brer Rabbit, and maybe from sources as disparate as Chuck Jones, J.R.R. Tolkien and Mervyn Peake (not to mention Lewis Carroll), Nalo Hopkinson's "Young Adult" debut is as singular a creation as it has been my pleasure to read in a very long time. /p. Has no villain and its (black, Canadian) heroine never wields a blade nor fires a gun. 1999 LiveJourn...

Review: The Hobbit, by J.R.R. Tolkien: epicfantasy
http://epicfantasy.livejournal.com/377293.html
Review: The Hobbit, by J.R.R. Tolkien. Return to Middle Earth:. Believe it or not, Peter Jackson. Is only indirectly responsible for my decision to re-read. Again). The proximal cause was Tor.com's (no-doubt entirely commercial) decision to ask the redoubtable Kate Nepveu. To lead a weekly, chapter-by-chapter "re-read" of the novel. In conjunction with the release of the first (of three! Movies based on J.R.R. Tolkien's 300 page children's story. The short version is that. The long version lives on my si...

Review: Paying For It, by Chester Brown: comicbooks

Review: Paying For It, by Chester Brown. You're a dirty whore-monger, Chester Brown. Autobiography is a risky endeavour at the best of times; not only will the memoirist's craft be scrutinized and judged, but so too will his or her. So it is probably a good thing for Chester Brown. That he is one of the best cartoonists of his generation, because he really. Have sex with prostitutes. In fact, his latest book,. Is all about his decision to give up on romantic love in favour of sex for money. If I had a da...

Hype to watch out for: Alison Bechdel's Fun Home and the danger of great expectations. As every former child prodigy knows, high expectations are both a blessing and a curse. A blessing, because past accomplishments open doors which might otherwise stay closed; a curse, because where others are free to hone their craft in obscurity, the prodigy is watched by every critical eye the moment they through that specially-opened portal. The Droz Report #4 - Weasel words, weasel's truth: canadakicksass
http://canadakicksass.livejournal.com/672587.html
The Droz Report #4 - Weasel words, weasel's truth. Harper's self-serving 'apology' exposes the cowardly venality lurking beneath his unbutoned shirt. If anybody is kept out of any of our events that's there to hear our message we obviously apologize to them. Our interest is in having as many people out to hear our message as we can. We're having huge meetings, we had another huge one last night and we want people to hear our message.". Incriminating evidence: Awish Aslam's Facebook profile phto. A week a...
