Conceptually, one could say that this piece demonstrates that the curve can be approximated by segmented straight lines. In other sculptures I have sought curvature through blacksmithing. In later work, for example BLUE SAIL, i began to use narrow crescents to blend into continuous curves, even a full sail. 15' x 8' x 3'.
Shofar

7' x 5' x 12'. Congregation Emanu-El B'Ne, Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The shofar is the ram’s horn ritually blown as an expression of both warning and freedom. This hollow 12-foot stainless steel fabrication, constructed from equilateral triangles, is acoustically tuned. On holidays an actual ram's horn is blown through the mouth piece, and the shofar's piercing sound is amplified.

I was born in a junk yard and I make sculpture. At my father's scrap business I hung around rusted cars, hungry shredding machines, and monster crushers and balers. Graduated from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Founded the influential underground publisher Hovey Street Press. Worked four years as the assistant to poet Denise Levertov, my Teacher. Metal is my medium. I want to bend it to my will, but it always wins.
