Contemplative musings on Technology and Business. Kernel panics under RHEL 5.7 with KVM and iptables REJECT rules. Running KVM under RHEL 5.7 is great. Except if you are using a bridged device, and you happen to have REJECT rules. This eventually leads to a kernel panic on the host. It’s a known issue.

EdgeCloud | Git + OS X
http://blog.edgecloud.com/post/18964927183/git-os-x
Contemplative musings on Technology and Business. Just a quick post noting that OS X, by default, enables a “case insensitive” option on its filesystems. This can wreak all kinds of havoc for traditional Unix users and tools, including very bizarre behavior with Git. I wish Git would check for this situation and report a warning. It caused me a good 15 minutes of grief before a friend. Reminded me that OS X filesystems are case insensitive.

Contemplative musings on Technology and Business. PXE Booting Virtual Machines. In a previous post, we talked about bridging a virtual machine directly on to the physical network. This is advantageous for numerous reasons, one of which is to allow direct PXE booting of the virtual machine. There is one caveat, though: bridge learning delays. EdgeCloud | DNSSEC - Part 1
http://blog.edgecloud.com/post/43569262270/dnssec-part-1
Contemplative musings on Technology and Business. DNSSEC - Part 1. During one of my recent Red Hat classes, some of the students asked if I would talk about DNSSEC. I knew it was used for signing DNS responses, but that was about the extent of my knowledge. Unfortunately, I made that terrible, but all too common mistake of thinking “Well, it can’t be. Hard” So, in a moment of imprudence, I agreed. I didn’t bother to start my research until the night before. How hard could it be, remember? And did so quit...
