Edinburgh and Lothians Wildlife Diary: December 2009

http://edinburghnature.blogspot.com/2009_12_01_archive.html

Edinburgh and Lothians Wildlife Diary. Loch Skene from top of Grey Mare's Tail. Wednesday, 30 December 2009. As in many places, we've had snow cover for the past fortnight. It's brought some interesting birds into the garden - many of these winter visitors from northern Europe. I've had Fieldfares. Feeding on my windfall apples and have seen Redwing. Around too. Brambling. Have been reported but I've not see them yet. Despite the weather, I can hear some birds - particularly Great. General sites I like.

Several Bird Cherry trees completely covered in webs of the Cherry Ermine Moth caterpillar and many stripped to the bone. Blackcap and Chiffchaff still singing. Small flock of Greylag on pond below the derelict house, which is currently being restored. Created by Delu...

Edinburgh and Lothians Wildlife Diary. Loch Skene from top of Grey Mare's Tail. Sunday, 11 July 2010. RSPB Bird Cruise, Firth of Forth. Joined one of the annual summer bird cruises on the Firth of Forth. This morning. Weather calm and peaceful as we set out from Queensferry but an hour later we were battling a gale force wind, and the boat had to turn back before we got to Inchkeith island. Many grey and a few common seals hauled out on the rocks and buoys. General sites I like. Local sites I like.
