Hey Paul Studios: Derby
http://heypaulstudios.blogspot.com/p/derby.html
MONDAY, NOVEMBER 5, 2012. Tonight was my first time back on skates since my shoulder injury nearly five months ago. It was scary and beautiful all at once. I felt awkward and clumsy as if I were a brand new recruit. None of that mattered. Take a peek at my roller derby page. Never been to a derby game? Always wanted to be a roller derby girl/guy? It's one of the top accomplishments of my life so far. Even post surgery, I don't regret a minute of it! MONDAY, JULY 23, 2012. MONDAY, JULY 23, 2012. When I we...

That's How I Roller Derby. Funny tan lines, cute ugly feet, and the six month marker. May 2, 2011. I think there were about eight of us, and as we skated by, people would shout “roller derby! 8221; or ask when the next bout is. I heard one person say, “there go those Roller Angels” Haha! It was so much fun! And a quick update about my foot issue. But I’m doing a much better job at recognizing how much I have improved in the past six months. Wow, six months. Already? Oh yeah, and click HERE. April 18, 2011.

I did it! | That's How I Roller Derby

That's How I Roller Derby. August 16, 2011. After 6 months of skating with the Derby Justice League, cheap skate night at the rink, and on the bike paths, I finally got to tryout for the league and I passed! I’ll have to see how this works out. I already know that my work schedule won’t let me do all of it all the time, but I can at least do some of it most of the time. Overall, lots to improve on but I’m proud of myself. I did something new even though it was scary. I took feedback and. Mostly I’m...

That's How I Roller Derby. June 2, 2011. The Brawlin’ Betties’ next bout is this weekend and, provided I don’t self destruct before then, I’m going to be an Outside Pack Ref! That’s right. Me. In a bout. With skates on. I’ve been reffing the practice scrimmages, practicing calling penalties in my car, in front of the computer or in the parking lot, and I’ve got my stripes. I’m having serious self-confidence issues but hey, what else is new? But the image quality isn’t all that great on my computer. The f...

That's How I Roller Derby. April 14, 2011. I’ve been neglecting this blog lately. The easiest explanation is lack of time. I’ve been incredibly busy between work, ref practice, socializing, and planning some big changes in my life, possibly a move. No, not out of the area, just looking for something more affordable. Grumble grumble… | That's How I Roller Derby

That's How I Roller Derby. November 14, 2011. I haven’t written in a long time because I’ve been in a funk, as far as skating goes. Things were going well for a while. I actually got to play in my first bout (! Which was exhilarating. It was awesome to feel like a part of a win, even though I only played in one jam and was made a spectacular goat (when the other team controls the pack by trapping an opposing player–me). But I did it and it was awesome. Maybe I was imagining my pain all along? I am so gla...
