Education, Technology, Literature, and Everything. Monday, January 31, 2011. 7 Ways to Reward the Brain. Tom Chatfield’s TED talk comes down to one thing: engagement. All of his conclusions based on MMO games make perfect sense, and for the gaming companies they are also extremely important. They have to continue to engage their players so that the players continue to pay the monthly fees or buy in game items. What does this mean for designing games for learning? Education, Technology, Literature, and Everything: Workspace

http://edtechlitandeverything.blogspot.com/2010/11/workspace.html

Education, Technology, Literature, and Everything. Wednesday, November 3, 2010. I'll readily admit that one thing I don't focus a lot of energy on in teaching is the physical space of my classroom. I don't think that my classroom has really been changed at all since the early 1970s. Mr. Kemble's hole is in the tile in the front of the room. Cinderblock walls somewhere between white and beige. One of a few reasons why I'm secondary instead of elementary. While a classroom like this would be really nice, s...

Education, Technology, Literature, and Everything: I'm a PC

http://edtechlitandeverything.blogspot.com/2010/10/im-pc.html

Education, Technology, Literature, and Everything. Friday, October 22, 2010. I can't see what documents are open in the dock. The huge, multitouch touchpad on the other hand is fabulous. I can do most things with it now without missing the mouse. The battery also lasts much longer than any PC laptop I've used. It boots up like a flash compared to my windows laptops. So there are some nice things about it. Aesthetically and ergonomically, the Mac's ok. But it's not a couch or a painting. I'm a PC. I also ...

Education, Technology, Literature, and Everything: November 2010

http://edtechlitandeverything.blogspot.com/2010_11_01_archive.html

Education, Technology, Literature, and Everything. Wednesday, November 24, 2010. How hard should high school be? After a class yesterday, as I reflected before the next set of students came into my room, I realized that I had spent much of the entire period explaining things at the literal level in the story the class was supposed to have read. This is something that I hope in general to not have to do. Later I wondered if I coddled them too much. Are my expectations high enough? The look I get is the sa...

Quixotic Edification: Drip Drop - Photo of the Week

http://quixoticedification.blogspot.com/2012/01/drip-drop-photo-of-week.html

Thoughts on teaching, learning, and life. Sunday, January 22, 2012. Drip Drop - Photo of the Week. This week's photo challenge was "liquid.". I took this shot with a 50mm lens and a 20mm extension tube. I can never seem to get the focus just right or get enough lighting. I don't have any strobes but the work lights in my husband's shop make pretty good light - just need more of them! Check out the comments on my photo stream here. Posted by Elisha Pospisil. Scoops of ideas, lessons, and reflections. Making Real Connections Takes Time #ce14. Posted by Michelle Smith. Asymp; Leave a comment. So, I along with the rest of my staff (that chose to participate) I am halfway through Connected Educator Month. By no means do I consider myself a TRULY connected educator, but I do understand the benefits of being one. That’s why I was adamant about sharing #ce14 activities with my campus. To. Aren’t connected, don’t understand why they should be. Tweeted about the event.
