Gather has three main objectives. Encourage people to choose a career on the web. Help makers* to start teaching. Encourage makers to keep learning. Makers include designers, developers, project managers, engineers, architects, writers, illustrators, photographers you get the picture! Every Gather venture has to satisfy one or more of the above statements. Also go into schools, equipping students and teachers with valuable skills while demonstrating that a career on the web is viable and attractive.

Gather is an unconference that happens every July in Auckland, New Zealand. Gather was started as Barcamp Auckland in 2007 by high school student, Ludwig Wendzich. The first event attracted 60 people. Fast forward to 2012 and Ludwig had graduated from high school, university and was working full-time at Lee ter Wal Design. Barcamp metamorphoses into Gather and the team expands to include studiomate Su Yin Khoo. In 2013, Gather launched a new venture in Gather Workshops for Schools.
