http://headscrolls.blogspot.com/2015_02_01_archive.html
Politics, books, sandwiches and everything in between. Monday, 2 February 2015. What about the rest of us? Labour and the Conservatives are falling over each other to be the party that represents hardworking people. But where is the party for those of us that would rather work a bit less, if we’re quite honest? Sadly, it isn’t there. I think I fairly started salivating at the mention of ‘dead time’. What I wouldn’t give for some. I said something along those lines, about how the...So, in an attempt to mo...

Richard Metcalf's Headscrolls: Bahar Mustafa: Why all the fuss?
http://headscrolls.blogspot.com/2015/05/bahar-mustafa-why-all-fuss.html
Politics, books, sandwiches and everything in between. Wednesday, 20 May 2015. Bahar Mustafa: Why all the fuss? Fury erupted when Goldsmiths Student Union's diversity offer Bahar Mustafa claimed that women from ethnic minorities can't be accused of sexism or racism. Which prompted me to ask myself, why the massive overreaction? A petition was started on Change.org. Mustafa's understanding of racism and sexism is based on the concept of privilege, which means that some people are treated better by society...

Politics, books, sandwiches and everything in between. Saturday, 11 February 2012. Sudoku, panini, hakuna matata. Linguistic justice for foreign words in English! In 1994 the Disney film the Lion King. Introduced the Western world to a Swahili phrase with which we are now all familiar. And yet, almost 18 years later, although most people would be able to tell you what hakuna matata. The English language’s capacity to absorb foreign vocabulary. Using only two Anglo-Saxon words and you will surely struggle.

Richard Metcalf's Headscrolls: Is there anything Anne Sinclair won't put up with?
http://headscrolls.blogspot.com/2011/08/is-there-anything-anne-sinclair-wont.html
Politics, books, sandwiches and everything in between. Monday, 29 August 2011. Is there anything Anne Sinclair won't put up with? Anne Sinclair: Feminist role model? When I first read that Anne Sinclair was standing by her husband, former IMF chief Dominique Strauss-Kahn. Recently released after a charge of attempted rape was dropped, a question leapt to mind. What does she see in the hefty 62-year-old philandering millionaire? She see in him, then? DSK: Struggling to overcome his 'weakness',. Perhaps &#...

Richard Metcalf's Headscrolls: April 2014
http://headscrolls.blogspot.com/2014_04_01_archive.html
Politics, books, sandwiches and everything in between. Tuesday, 1 April 2014. Two thirds of Brits cant name five fruits or vegetables. A group of experts today urged the government to increase the official guideline daily amount of fruit and vegetables people should eat from five to seven or even 10 portions. This would match the suggested quota in Norway but would still be a long way behind the recommendation in Bongo Bongo land. Said a spokesman of the Food Attitudes Thinktank (FAT). Links to this post.

Richard Metcalf's Headscrolls: December 2014
http://headscrolls.blogspot.com/2014_12_01_archive.html
Politics, books, sandwiches and everything in between. Wednesday, 31 December 2014. Richard Metcalf's Review of 2014. We are writing the last few lines at the bottom of the page of 2014 with one hand, holding down the nearly full sheet with the other, as the bitter, wintery winds of time start to whip around it, trying to flip the ragged sheet over to reveal the bare, white expanse of January 2015. The dying year will not be missed by Charlie Brooker. The Scottish people voted to remain in the UK in Sept...

Politics, books, sandwiches and everything in between. Monday, 9 January 2012. Scottish Independence: Pros and cons. SNP supporter responds to David Cameron's intervention today. David Cameron today hardened the resolve of Scottish nationalists to win independence for their nation by interfering with SNP referendum plans. But what if the English, Welsh and Northern Irish were. Given a say on this issue? Do you know how you would cast your vote? You should probably prepare for the eventuality, just in cas...

Richard Metcalf's Headscrolls: March 2015
http://headscrolls.blogspot.com/2015_03_01_archive.html
Politics, books, sandwiches and everything in between. Sunday, 1 March 2015. The problem with non-Muslims defending ‘true Islam’. Powerful non-Muslims don’t seem to be able to stop telling Muslims what’s true Islam and what isn’t, and I find it dishonest and sinister. 8220;Of course not, of course not! 8221; the interviewer hurriedly interjected, apparently at pains to distance himself from the idea that terrorists could be true Muslims. A preposterous idea! Because surely, to him, all. Sure, maybe he wo...
