Like the one above, buttons, scarves, tea services and stationery. This raised funds for campaigning, it allowed supporters to recognise one another, and it raised public awareness of the issue of votes for women. Posted here on Monday, 26 May 2008. 0 comments. With a menu not too far removed from that of its Edwardian heyday. Posted here on Monday, 12 January 2009. Oh I love this bit of history and your post is spot on. By the way, do you know anything about the painting? I have clearly cited your work in my discussion on the early women's movement, but couldn't find a Link Icon on your page. Britain's experience in the Anglo-Boer War of 1899-1902 suggested not. One of the most sensational of invasion fear narratives was William Le Quexs The Invasion of 1910. Or How Clarence Saved England. Famous authors contributed to the genre. H.G. Wells nourished his own distinctive blend of fears of invasion and technology in his 1898, The War of the Worlds. Also writing a telling description of the potential horrors of aerial bombardment in The War in the Air. This story follows the fortunes of the hero...

Contains information on these superbly made Edwardian storage tins, and on the history of the company. Customers who bought Huntley and Palmer's biscuits included Victorian coach and rail travellers, as well as those who by the Edwardian period were enjoying morning coffee and afternoon tea. Curiously, some biscuits were believed to have health-giving properties, such as the breakfast biscuit, which is advertised on the tin above. Posted here on Sunday, 19 October 2008. 1 comments.

Historically Romantic: April 2011
http://historicallyromantic.blogspot.com/2011_04_01_archive.html
Tuesday, April 26, 2011. Jealous of a Third World Country. Yes, I am. I miss it. I miss you, Paraguay. More specifically, I miss my friends there. It makes me sad that it may be a long while before I see them again. One of the sisters from my mission is headed there shortly and I'm preparing a little package to send to my dearest family there. Here are some pictures. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). A little of me. An Edwardian State of Mind. Jealous of a Third World Country. View my complete profile.

Thursday, June 7, 2012. What a difference three years make. The Metropolitan Museum of Art - Dress, Evening. That's right. I'm coming back and with a bang. I've done so much historical research lately that I need a place to put it all. It should be fun and interesting. I'm currently writing a novel centered around the Lusitania. So that will be the focus for a little while, unless of course, I find other interesting things as well. You've got to love how the fashion and the times changed from the Titanic.

Historically Romantic: May 2011
http://historicallyromantic.blogspot.com/2011_05_01_archive.html
Tuesday, May 31, 2011. This TV show on Netflix is fantastic. I am in complete love and I'm only on episode four. The show highlights the culture of the Titanic. Era It begins with the death of two family members on the Titanic. Which changes the fortune of the family. The acting is amazing. It is so subtle that on many occasions, I feel the characters are real instead of actors, which is quite a feat. Seriously, if you like period dramas, you must watch Downton Abbey. Saturday, May 14, 2011. There is som...

Thursday, June 23, 2011. I'm definitely planning to focus this blog back to it's original intentions- history. I just watched the movie Pearl Harbor and despite it's many historically inaccuracies, realized I am still very much in love with it. He was the first African American to be awarded the Navy Cross. An Edwardian State of Mind: On This Day...
http://edwardianstateofmind.blogspot.com/2014/07/on-this-day.html
An Edwardian State of Mind. Monday, July 28, 2014. When I returned to Colorado, I was inspired to re-read some of my books of poetry of the Great War. Today's anniversary reminds me of one of Rupert Brooke's early poems of 1914 entitled 'The Dead' which captures the sentimentality and patriotism of soldiers leaving for what they thought would be a 'grand war'. This is the first stanza which, I think encapsulates that mood and is all the more poignant for it. Blow out, you bugles, over the rich Dead!

http://edwardianstateofmind.blogspot.com/2014/07/new-look-new-book.html
An Edwardian State of Mind. Sunday, July 6, 2014. New Look, New Book! An Edwardian State of Mind has a new look in honor of the release of Unlikely Traitors. The third book in my Edwardian mystery series featuring Ursula Marlow. It's been a long time coming, but I'm thankful that readers will finally discover Lord Wrotham's fate after the unexpected twist at the end of The Serpent and The Scorpion. Don't worry though, no spoilers here! Which I share with ten other talented mystery and thriller writers).

An Edwardian State of Mind: Inspiration for Unlikely Traitors - Part I Ireland
http://edwardianstateofmind.blogspot.com/2014/08/inspiration-for-unlikely-traitors-part.html
An Edwardian State of Mind. Monday, August 11, 2014. Inspiration for Unlikely Traitors - Part I Ireland. I've always been drawn to researching Irish history. There's something altogether tragic yet noble; romantic and passionate; mystical and yet violent about Ireland's past - and ever since I was a teenager asking to read Bobbie Sands poetry, it's been a source of fascination for me. When I was mulling over the plot for Unlikely Traitors. The figure of James. I knew I would be delving into a period full...

Cookbook is a self-published zine inspired by traditional British cookery like the sort found in the Mrs. Cookery books of the Victorian and Edwardian period. If you like old style breakfast dishes such as sausages, kedgeree or breakfast rolls and hot cocoa, but want to cook a vegetarian and vegan version, this zine can help with some recipes. It has a hint of nostalgia for the varied breakfast fare available circa 1900, alongside delightful illustrations from a Victorian copy of Mrs Beeton. Was invented...
