Thoughts from around the world. Archive for October, 2010. October 31, 2010. I recently took a Standard First Aid course in Ottawa with the RedCross. The last time I took a first aid course was in Grade 11, I believe. It has been 13 years since I was last exposed to any life saving techniques. I also have brief memories of learning CPR, and other techniques when I was taking swimming lessons as a child. This is by no means an endorsement, as there are many organisations capable of offering the course.

Thoughts from around the world. School Visits in Honduras. School Visits in Honduras. December 23, 2010. Ellen Finn with a group of people from a village outside of Copan, Honduras. I am on my way to Guatemala City for Christmas to meet some friends. A few weeks ago, I was doing a websearch, and came upon an organisation called Project School Supplies. It is run by a lady named Ellen Finn from the States. It is basically a two person team, and they rely primarily on individual donations. They also op...

Thoughts from around the world. Random thoughts through Honduras. Random thoughts through Honduras. December 23, 2010. Fireworks in Cantarranas, Honduras. I am spending a quiet night in Copan Ruinas in Northern Honduras. Over the last few days, I have travelled up from Managua to Nothern Honduras, and have had a great time. Here are some thoughts:. The police seemed baffled that the bus driver had our passports, and did not believe us. It seemed that they have never done a check at a border before. The h...

Thoughts from around the world. Archive for November, 2011. 1 Year in Nicaragua. November 1, 2011. I am back in Canada again for a short stint. Today is my first year anniversary on arrival into Nicaragua, and ironically I am spending it in Canada. Since November I have learned a lot as a person, and seen many things that were very difficult. I realise that I am a lucky person, and I know that there is much work to do to accomplish what I strive towards in Nicaragua. The ability to walk around at night &...

Thoughts from around the world. Archive for May, 2011. May 12, 2011. I woke up this morning, and to my delight found that my mango laced trap contained a mouse. I disposed of the mouse in proper fashion as well. The glue traps do not seem to be working, they just seem to be picking up bits of hair and dust. I guess that is what you need to live with when your doors and windows are constantly open. Click to email (Opens in new window). Share on Facebook (Opens in new window). May 10, 2011. Thoughts from around the world. Archive for November, 2010. Can you live without water? November 27, 2010. This is how many people in rural and urban areas get their drinking, and cleaning water in Nicaragua. In Nicaragua, it is much different. There are not a lot of resources or statistics out there. I could only find estimations, and those estimations could also be off. One source on wikipedia, indicates that 84% of urban homes and 27% of rural homes have connections to water. My permament residence in...
