NAN XIANGZI: Writing in engineering classes

Sunday, October 5, 2008. Writing in engineering classes. Penny, yue xiaofei (:. I totally agree with you when you mentioned that reading text books and study subjects in English is quite hard for us international students, especially non-native English speakers. In my opinion, the best way to overcome this is nothing but practice. Practice makes perfect. The more familiar we are with the contexts, the better our understanding, and the better we can express ourselves. November 6, 2008 at 7:28 PM.

Task 2: Sentence Fragments. 8221; The second part of the sentence is not a complete sentence. It is merely a phrase or dependent clause. One way to correct this kind of mistakes is to remove or change the punctuation. Then the sentence becomes “ I don’t like this lecturer. Jenny's Blog: Task 4: Writing in Engineering Classes
http://zhouxuanjenny.blogspot.com/2008/10/task-4-writing-in-engineering-classes.html
Task 4: Writing in Engineering Classes. Since we are still on the very basic stage of engineering study, we have not encountered much writing in our engineering classes yet in the Sem1 modules. However, taking my previous writing experience for the GEK module as example, the major difficulties that I have are vocabulary and academic writing style. Jenny, Zhou Xuan. 30 Oct 2008, 8:56:00 AM. The way we write is not as same as the way we speak. Maybe we should read more. 3 Nov 2008, 2:05:00 PM.

Monday, August 25, 2008. Energy: a grand challenge for Engineering. Faced with limited fossil resource, we need to improve the efficiency of using it to get the maximum energy. For example, we can convert solid coal into powder to burn more efficiently and gain more energy. Another example is mixing petrol with alcohol, which is wide spread in some parts of China, and feedback is quite good. September 3, 2008 at 5:32 AM. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Friday, August 29, 2008. The Use of Articles (a, an, the). As to the use of “the”, we should note its geographical use. We do not use “the” before names of most countries and territories, names of streets, names of lakes, bays, mountains. However, we should use “the” before names of rivers, seas, oceans, names of desserts, forests, gulfs, peninsulas, geographical areas and points on the globe. I need to apply the rules listed above to avoid misusing of articles in the later academic writing.

I agree with you, sometimes you just have to pay extra attention to what the professors said. You may find confusion between different accent speaks by dfferent professors, but sooner and later, you will get use of it. Very insightful to how foreign students adapt to life in NUS. I like how you used quotes in the last part of your paragraph. 订阅: 帖子评论 (Atom). Task 5: Abuses of Mind Mapping Technology. Portfolio5, a short summary of two articles.
