Nandina's Place: Plants are for the birds
http://nandinasplace.blogspot.com/2014/06/plants-are-for-birds.html
Crochet, gardening and a little bit of vintage in the Bush Capital. Monday, 23 June 2014. Plants are for the birds. I can't help but extoll how wonderful Canberra is in winter. Yes, it is very cold and frosty, but we also tend to get good rain and lovely, sunny days. I have endeavoured to do this. An added bonus is that I now have plants that look great during an otherwise drab time in the garden. Here are a few snaps of plants that were in flower this past weekend:. Although slightly off-topic, while I ...

Nandina's Place: July 2014
http://nandinasplace.blogspot.com/2014_07_01_archive.html
Crochet, gardening and a little bit of vintage in the Bush Capital. Saturday, 19 July 2014. Sweet, sweet satisfaction - my chequerboard blanket is finished! It's been a long time coming but I have finally completed my chequerboard cotton blanket! Here it is, in all its unblocked glory, on my dining room table. Then, towards the end, there were a lot of ends to weave in, (ever so carefully, so as not to be visible or lumpy). Here's a close up of the right side . . . And the wrong side. All in all, there w...

Nandina's Place: February 2014
http://nandinasplace.blogspot.com/2014_02_01_archive.html
Crochet, gardening and a little bit of vintage in the Bush Capital. Saturday, 22 February 2014. A breath of fresh air. To celebrate the freshness in the air since the rain has come, I have been inspired to start a new crochet project in cotton, using lovely fresh green and cream. I am making a summer weight bed coverlet - for those in between nights when it is too hot for a doona/duvet but you need more than a sheet alone. I am basing the coverlet on this blanket . . . For a remarkable $4! Probably the o...

Nandina's Place: May 2014
http://nandinasplace.blogspot.com/2014_05_01_archive.html
Crochet, gardening and a little bit of vintage in the Bush Capital. Friday, 30 May 2014. Gorgeous gardens - part 2. During my trip to Melbourne I was fortunate to be able to visit two Diggers. In the Dandenongs, and Heronswood. At Dromana. As a Diggers member, entry to both gardens was free! Works of art, garden structures, and beautiful stonework enhanced the garden's design. Interesting plant combinations added depth and texture to the rampant autumn colour. The garden design created picturesque views ...

Nandina's Place: January 2014
http://nandinasplace.blogspot.com/2014_01_01_archive.html
Crochet, gardening and a little bit of vintage in the Bush Capital. Monday, 27 January 2014. It's the perennial chicken and egg situation. Sometimes, you want to make something but don't have all the stuff you need. Sometimes it's the opposite - you have rather a lot of stuff that needs using it up. While I don't usually have any problems giving away surplus produce or using up leftovers, I recently experienced this situation in the wool department. And it was my own fault. I realised I would have to be ...

Nandina's Place: April 2014
http://nandinasplace.blogspot.com/2014_04_01_archive.html
Crochet, gardening and a little bit of vintage in the Bush Capital. Friday, 25 April 2014. A 'hatty' kind of day. The cooler weather has inspired me to start looking for interesting hats. A couple of weeks ago I indulged in a copy of Simply Crochet (issue 17). I really enjoy browsing through the patterns and yarny info in crochet magazines. This one is expensive, being imported from the UK, so buying for myself it was quite a treat. And see the pretty hat? It really took my fancy! Here's my daughter mode...

Crochet, gardening and a little bit of vintage in the Bush Capital. Tuesday, 27 January 2015. Daisy, daisy . . . a summer daisy blanket! Over the past few weeks I have been working on using up some of my stash of acrylic yarn. Having some golden yellow left from a bag I made some time ago, I fixed upon making a blanket with little yellow centred daisies. There are any number of various daisy motifs on Ravelry, but in the end I decided to use the easy granny square variation set out here at Attic24. Baske...

Nandina's Place: Revelling in camellias
http://nandinasplace.blogspot.com/2014/06/revelling-in-camellias.html
Crochet, gardening and a little bit of vintage in the Bush Capital. Saturday, 14 June 2014. According to the calendar, winter has arrived, though it's been relatively mild so far - and my camellias seem to be delighting in an extended flowering season. This has gladdened my heart, particularly as they really suffered during the rolling heat waves of summer. These camellias have a slight fragrance. Their nectar also attracts native honey eaters, like this wattle bird. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).
