Thursday, August 30, 2007. Administrative stuff at AUC today. I learnt that they have scuba diving, which is quite cool. (See Dad, I'm learning a lot.). But there was one very memorable comment. We had a cultural session today, and one of the reminders was no hard Egyptian liquor. As Tomader Rifaat, the woman for study abroad, put it, "the best thing that can happen is that you'll go blind.". She got the microphone and asked, "How long does it take for you to go blind? Is Gin O.K? Jamia'a Ahmad Ibn Tulun.

The Adventures of a Balding 21st Century Explorer: عيد ميلاد سعيد ماثيو
http://mitciu.blogspot.com/2007/11/blog-post.html
Thursday, November 15, 2007. عيد ميلاد سعيد ماثيو. I had a nice bday dinner at Abu Al-Seed in Zamalek, which is an upper end Egyptian restaurant and apparently is a cool place to be seen. We had a bunch of mixed mezze (basically the food on the street made nicer for the restaurant) and then a couple of main dishes. I had a sort of veal tajine, followed by an amazing cake and a shisha. The Entrance to Abu Al-Seed in Zamalek, its right next to Diwan. In twelve, we managed to eat less than a 1/4 of it!

The Adventures of a Balding 21st Century Explorer: Sinai

Monday, November 12, 2007. We wake up in Sharm (in time to see an MFO sign! And realize that we are actually in the middle of nowhere. Eventually we figure out how to get towards the beach - and the ultra-artificial pseudo-european paradise. Lacking any hotel reservation we wandered around the nice hotels - who all took one look at us; used to being treated so well in Cairo; and told us their hotels were full! Emma and Fidele enjoying the empty pool. Happily, we got a minibus to Dahab - about an hour and...

The Adventures of a Balding 21st Century Explorer: October 2007

Saturday, October 20, 2007. An Excerpt from "Endings". This is an excerpt from Endings,. My prof. says about the book "you either love it or you hate." If you hate it, imagine over 100 pages of stories like this one chained together without chapter or any other form of separation. Two old men wrapped in goat-hair cloaks were staring out of the big window at the vista of the garden spread out below them. Hot weather in March is tricky,' the other replied with a rasping voice. That's all over and done with...
