Saw yet another article about Palestine’s conservatism. How the beer festival was cancelled because, well, ‘they’ don’t like fun. To survive in Palestine takes endurance. It takes the kind of self control that makes a child stand still, unpanicking, unmoving, while his grandfather is beaten and humiliated. Because to move would make it worse. Self discipline practised all day, everyday, is a Palestinian art. The friction is between this vital art and a day that celebrates its renunciation. The Sky is Blue.
