Cloak v2.2 | Tis a grand blog
https://eirebecky.wordpress.com/2013/11/12/cloak-v2-2
Tis a grand blog. Laquo; The Colour Stealing Cloak. Knitting Machine on tour. 12 November, 2013. The Colour Stealing Cloak got some good reactions, but I wasn’t entirely happy with the version. I took to Burning Man. With a Burner party coming up, I wanted to fix some annoying problems:. The solid colour showed up the strings of LEDs too clearly. There was an ugly pause while the colour was detected. The buttons weren’t working properly.*. The colour sense action was too slow. Much better: now the cloak ...

Tis a grand blog. Better living through jewellery. 31 January, 2014. There are some products. Like this, but they’re big and clunky and poorly reviewed. There are also watch platforms ready for hacking. 8211; but although they have hundreds of features already, they either don’t have vibrating alerts, or they’re not available yet. (They are also expensive and huge.). The gadget I want doesn’t exist. No problem; I’ll just make one*. Vibrate once every N minutes. Time adjustable, through a variable resistor.

Tis a grand blog. Laquo; Cloak v2.2. Better living through jewellery. Knitting Machine on tour. 30 January, 2014. Last week, TOG had an exhibition of projects. In the gallery at Exchange Dublin. I wanted to include the hacked knitting machine. Took a set of photos. And I created a couple of displays on the wall. Normal knitting, before TOG got involved. Hacked machine and the resulting knitting. On the closing night, I gave a live demo of the contraption:. Knitted a scarf for a capoeirista. Any colour yo...

Tis a grand blog. Laquo; The poetry of NYC. The Colour Stealing Cloak. 30 September, 2013. The Colour Stealing Cloak is version two of the Cloak of Many Lights. It looks similar, with twinkly white lights under layers of organza*. But this one is different. Let’s say I am wearing it of an evening, and I get chatting to someone, and this person is wearing a nice blue hat. Me, looking at their hat: “Oh, I like your hat! It’s a lovely shade of blue! Them: Oh, thank you! I’m going to steal your colour! This ...

Musings on anything and everything. April 5, 2011. My latest means of amusing myself. If you crib people’s status updates, correcting their text-speak for real English, and then put line breaks in the appropriate places you can turn them into poetry. Today’s example :. Building works across the road,. Are starting to drive me mad. All I can hear is. Bang bang bang bang bang. Filed under Facebook Poetry. Tis a grand blog. Blog at WordPress.com. It’s been a week since I started both NaNoWriMo. And you’ll no doubt have noticed that I haven’t blogged much about it yet. Writing, it seems, gets in the way of writing. Red And White LED Dresses – Part Fusion Electronics
http://partfusion.com/2014/04/red-and-white-led-dresses
Red And White LED Dresses. I’ve been experimenting with electronic fashion since about 2012. In that time I’ve never produced a finished garment that someone might want to wear. I’ve just created example pieces showing the techniques and/or capabilities of the technology. That person has turned out to be my mother, Dolores Fitzsimons. We visited some local fabric stores in Dublin, and found that Organza fabric produced a very appealing diffraction effect when a clear LED light shines through it. The oute...
In search of postcards: Postcards from beyond the edge
http://noblueskies.blogspot.com/2012/03/postcards-from-beyond-edge.html
Postcards from beyond the edge. This work was partially inspired by an article I read about sending postcards from space. Soon after I got the brief for the next ReOrsa artists project, dealing with notions around boundaries and the breaking of them. The two seemed to coalesce instantly into the beginnings of this work. Boundaries and Beyond flyer. Which talked about the interior of the Earth and how it may be the last place we ever explore due to its phenomenally inhospitable conditions. I've always bee...

Welcome to Simons Wood published. Welcome to Simons Wood. Is a photographic project from 2010-2011. As many of you will know it follows on from the previous years project Perambulation. The idea of reflecting reality was one I explored first with Perambulation,. I will go out when I should, no matter the weather at the time. I may change the ...

In January I also saw Tacita Dean's Film. The new Unilever installation in Tate Modern's Turbine hall. I'm not usually one for video art, I often find it hit or miss but this one was a a hit for me. Photo: Joseph Keating, www.atsukojoe.wordpress.com. It inhabits the space with an almost monolitic quality, making me think of Arthur C Clarke's novel and Kubrick's film 2001: A Space Odyssey. Looking back at the viewers on the bridge. Tuesday, February 28, 2012. As well as a few other exhibitions. I haven't ...

Musings on anything and everything. Why being online is bad for console gamers…. October 31, 2010. For a while now online features have been touted as the best thing to come to console gaming since the analog controller; they have also raked in wheelbarrow-fulls of cash in the form of pay-for DLC and titles that would never have gotten a look in through traditional distribution channels. Many of these download-only titles are. And a lot of fantastic. On the Sinclair Spectrum. Console gaming, like PC gami...

Tis a grand blog
Tis a grand blog. 7 April, 2014. Suitcase manufacturers, as far as I can tell, don’t take into account the laws of physics. When they design their products. It’s not that my suitcase is very old. Or that I do as much travelling as some people. But already the wheels have worn down to uselessness so that you have to drag the wretched thing every step of the way, cursing the manufacturer. And thinking that the Sumerians. Could have done a better job. Thou Shalt Not Rivet. I’ll take two! One down, one to go.
