I have a teaching studio of about a dozen students. My focus is on teaching classical harp music using the Salzedo method. I also coach students in early music, celtic traditions and improvisation/arranging. Students range from elementary school students through adults. They play on lever harps and pedal harps. They play in a recital each spring. Some have gone on to play professionally or major in harp in college. Most simply enjoy playing the harp as an enriching part of their lives.

Elaine Barber began playing the harp at the age of ten, and began playing professionally in her native Mississippi four years later. She earned her MM in harp performance at Rice University’s Shepherd School of Music, studying with Beatrice Rose. Ms Barber maintains a private teaching studio in Austin and has been on the faculty of Mississippi College, Sewanee Summer Music Festival, Austin Chamber Music Center, University of Texas Harp Camp, and Abilene Summer Music Festival.

Ms Barber . was no less than spellbinding. A natural and thoughtful musician, Barber also has an effortless technique. Her interpretation of the Ginastera, regarded as perhaps the finest work for solo harp, was like her red dress: vibrant.
